Connecting Epic Dots

In Genesis, the Serpent shows up as an accuser and a deceiver.

In the story of Job, Satan shows up as an accuser of both God and Job— allowed to do violence to Job—to deceive Job and friends…

In the story of the Cross—Satan is allowed to enter Judas to do violence to the Son of God— with the result that the Accuser and Deceiver is deceived, exposed, and judged.

In the ultimate twist of fate, the glory of God is revealed and confirmed by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Where are we in the picture?

  1. Mart DeHaan says:

    Am copying below Jeff1’s early morning comment from “Inexpresible”:

    Faith, hope, love and the greatest is love for those who walk with love, walk with God in heaven above.

    Here is love vast as the ocean

    Here is love, vast as the ocean,
    Loving kindness as the flood,
    When the Prince of Life, our ransom,
    Shed for us His precious blood.
    Who His love will not remember?
    Who can cease to sing His praise?
    He can never be forgotten,
    Throughout Heaven’s eternal days.

    On the mount of crucifixion,
    Fountains opened deep and wide;
    Through the floodgates of God’s mercy
    Flowed a vast and gracious tide.
    Grace and love, like mighty rivers,
    Poured incessant from above,
    And Heav’n’s peace and perfect justice
    Kissed a guilty world in love.

    Let me all Thy love accepting,
    Love Thee, ever all my days;
    Let me seek Thy Kingdom only
    And my life to be Thy praise;
    Thou alone shalt be my glory,
    Nothing in the world I see.
    Thou has cleansed and sanctified me,
    Thou Thyself has set me free.

    I get phone calls from pollsters all the time, if I have a few minutes to spare I might answer a few questions for them that is until the questions they ask are leading to an answer they want.

    Deception is a tool used by many.

    Where do we fit or perhaps best said where do I fit in the story outlined by Mart this morning?

    It seems simple to me that it is I whom Satan wishes to deceive.

    If it is God Himself whom Satan wishes to slander and discredit to me and the rest of God’s creation. I am left to wonder why God not only allows him to do so, but helps him in his quest.

    Mart’s answer seems to say that it is Satan who ends up being deceived into thinking he can go up against God and win.

    It seems that I am thrust into a dual role of observer and victim in showing Satan he can’t ultimately win. That what seem as his little victories are only a pathway to show that God is God.

    29 degrees and partially clear.

    What Irony! Since Easter is on April 1st this year, I have to point out that God is the victor over Satan. Satan is the fool whose tricks were turned into blessings. We are victorious in Christ even though Satan works against us. The tomb is empty…Oh death, where is your sting.

  4. Beloved says:

    Where are we in the picture? Hopefully wiser than our forebearers. Every sin ever conceived of is discussed in the Bible. Yes we have hope because we have a Savior yet we are still prone to follow the sinful flesh because we are a fallen humanity. Sometimes wisdom speaks louder than words. Check your heart at the foot of the cross where telling the truth meets redemption. I’m checking mine.

    1 Corinthians 15:22
    For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
    Ephesians 2:4-6
    4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
    Ephesians 2:10
    For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
    Psalm 73:28
    But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.
    John 10:32
    Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?”
    Romans 8:28
    And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
    Philippians 1:6
    For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
    2 Timothy 2
    19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”
    20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

  6. poohpity says:

    Where are we in this picture? Still caught in the battle but the Lord exposed the deception and lies of Satan and gave us the tools needed for defense and offense.

    God gave us salvation while Satan accuses and deceives that you can lose it by your behavior when it was dependent on what Christ did not on what we can do.

    God clothed us in the righteousness of Christ while Satan says again it is by your own righteousness that makes a difference you can do it you do not need God.

    God gave us faith but the enemy tries to push us into thinking that God would not allow trails, suffering and causes discontentment so we will turn away from God.

    God gave us Truth so that we can stand our ground against the deception and lies like telling us that we are not worth anything, have no purpose or how can God love someone like you.

    God gave us peace and love rather than the hate, anger, bitterness and retaliation of the evil forces of this world that causes strife, ugly intentions and repaying evil for evil. God tells us that good will turn the hearts of people and prove we are His.

    God gave us His word so that when Satan says, “did God really say that?” we will know whether or not He did. Also so we can identify false teaching.

    Since all those things come from the Lord we can come to the conclusion that the battle actually belongs to the Lord and He wins in the end meanwhile we cling to Him while Satan tries to pull us away.

    Grace and love, like mighty rivers,
    Poured incessant from above,

    fountain of grace and mercy, reminded i am carried to or into the presents of God. the cross will draw all men to Christ. 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I, Jesus, will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I,Jesus, will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

  8. SFDBWV says:

    Our last topic title “Inexpressible” only begins to touch on an explanation of what this is all about. This life we have this relationship with our Creator.

    What actually took place on Calvary and how to define the love that God has for us.

    What it means to suffer or see suffering.

    To wonder where God is in all of this story and where we fit in.

    Are the littlest details of our life important?

    Does He weep over our pain?

    Does it hurt Him when he has to let us suffer?

    Is it wrong for us to question God?

    There are a great many dots to connect, but they all take back to the beginning, back to where we began there with God.

    Though tears may endure for the night, joy comes in the morning.

    Good question. I have been all these at one time or another. Knowing God makes all the difference I think that only reading about Him can bring confusion or sinful perceptions at best. Sometimes we have to fight through the bias’s and seek His face. Scary sometimes for sure. Even the lovely truths about Him you and Mart post require more than this twisted mind can comprehend at times. Yes, knowing and simply trusting Him is best I think, like a child with it’s mother. He only reveals as much truth as we can understand, one dot at a time. He’s a good good Father.

  10. Beloved says:

    Dot 1. We love God because He first loved us. John

    Dot 2. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven–for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little. Luke 7:47

    Dot 3. Your faith has saved you, go in peace. Luke 7:50

    Hallelujah! What a Savior! Confession is so good for the weary soul.
    In Him all hope abounds. Learning to love is God’s work in me. God is love. The dots come full circle as always. :-) blessed!

  11. jeff1 says:

    Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
    O what a foretaste of glory divine!
    Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
    Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

    Refrain:
    This is my story, this is my song,
    praising my Saviour all the day long;
    this is my story, this is my song,
    praising my Saviour all the day long.

    Perfect submission, perfect delight!
    Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
    Angels descending bring from above
    Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

    Refrain:
    This is my story, this is my song,
    praising my Saviour all the day long;
    this is my story, this is my song,
    praising my Saviour all the day long.

    Perfect submission, all is at rest!
    I in my Saviour am happy and blessed,
    Watching and waiting, looking above,
    Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

    Refrain:
    This is my story, this is my song,
    praising my Saviour all the day long;
    this is my story, this is my song,
    praising my Saviour all the day long.

  13. jeff1 says:

    Steve our weather is the same here down to the temperature. Happy Easter to you too and to all.

    We all stand in Jesus’s presence today because it is the will of God that we do so.

    I Stand Amazed In The Presence

    I stand amazed in the presence
    Of Jesus the Nazarene,
    And wonder how He could love me,
    A sinner condemned, unclean.

    O how marvellous! O how wonderful!
    And my song shall ever be:
    O how marvellous! O how wonderful!
    Is my Saviour’s love for me!

    For me it was in the garden,
    He prayed: “Not my will, but Thine.”
    He had no tears for His own griefs,
    But sweat-drops of blood for mine

    O how marvellous! O how wonderful!
    And my song shall ever be:
    O how marvellous !O how wonderful!
    Is my Saviour’s love for me!

    In pity angels beheld Him,
    And came from the world of light
    To strengthen Him in the sorrows
    He bore for my soul that night.

    O how marvellous! O how wonderful!
    And my song shall ever be:
    O how marvellous! O how wonderful!
    Is my Saviour’s love for me!

    Yes! Today we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord from apparent defeat, humiliation, and loss. What irony that it falls this year on April Fools Day.

    Is there a better day to remember that our struggle is not with flesh and blood— and that even in our angry fears and foolishness we, and those we despise, are loved?

  16. bullwinkle says:

  19. poohpity says:

    It’s the light that pierces through you
    To the darkest hidden place
    It knows your deepest secrets
    But it never looks away
    It’s the gentle hand that pulls you
    From the judgment of the crowd
    When you stand before them guilty
    And you’ve got no way out

    Some may call it foolish and impossible
    But for every heart it rescues it’s a miracle
    It’s nothing less than scandalous
    This love that took our place
    Just call it what it is
    Call it grace (ooh oh oh)
    Call it grace (ooh oh oh)

    It’s the breath that’s breathing new life
    Into what we thought was dead
    It’s the favor that takes orphans
    Placing crowns upon their heads
    It’s the hope for our tomorrows
    The rock on which we stand
    It’s a strong and mighty fortress
    Even hell can’t stand against

    Some may call it foolish and impossible
    But for every heart it rescues it’s a miracle
    It’s nothing less than scandalous
    This love that took our place
    Just call it what it is
    Call it grace (ooh oh oh)
    Call it grace (ooh oh oh)
    Call it grace (ooh oh oh)

    Amazing, unshaking
    This is grace, this is grace
    Unchanging, unfailing
    This is grace, this is grace

    Some may call it foolish and impossible
    But for every heart it rescues it’s a miracle
    It’s nothing less than scandalous
    That Jesus took our place
    Oh, call it was it is
    Just call it what it is
    Call it grace

    On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
    The emblem of suff’ring and shame;
    And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
    For a world of lost sinners was slain.
    Refrain:
    So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
    Till my trophies at last I lay down;
    I will cling to the old rugged cross,
    And exchange it someday for a crown.
    Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
    Has a wondrous attraction for me;
    For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
    To bear it to dark Calvary.
    In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
    A wondrous beauty I see,
    For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
    To pardon and sanctify me.
    To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
    Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
    Then He’ll call me someday to my home far away,
    Where His glory forever I’ll share.

  35. poohpity says:

    Where are we in the picture? It would seem that we, human kind, are always in the mind and heart of God. Since the very beginning God said, the serpent would bruise our heel but his head would be bruised. Have you ever tried walking with a bruised heel? Or when a leader is bruised which happened in the garden of Gethsemane when Jesus made the choice to follow through with the will of God the serpent was bruised or crushed with the final Victory in the Resurrection, death no longer has a sting. All the while we have been in the very heart of God, our good has been in the very heart of God.

    God walked in the garden with man kind to the final end of living together with us in Paradise. The in between through faith we can walk daily with Him until that final end when we see Him face to face. We are never left alone. So hopefully where are we in the picture, under His wing, close by His side with God in our heart. It sure will make the things we go through a little easier and Matt 28:20 NLT

  36. poohpity says:

    I know there are some who when going through trials and suffering turn away from God the very one we need to get us through. It is like an athlete who never uses their muscles then gets into a competition only to find they have no endurance.

    As Peter wrote;

    All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.

    6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

    “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!

    As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,

    4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead

  39. street says:

    this abundance of food to spare is not to be stored up in barns. Jesus told Peter, who loved Him, to feed/tend His sheep. in other words love one another as I have loved you. yes you will run into goats too. Jesus ran into a lot of goats and died to take away their sin. Inexpressible. Jesus gave them the truth in love and patients never condemning them, simply because He came to save. following a Savior is much different than being one. yet Jesus called His disciples brothers. Florist in the light of His Love, knowing it never ends like corruption.

  40. Beloved says:

    Connecting the dots
    I’ve been wondering how God could-would want to love and know me. If I were God I’d forget me. Truth. He’s so different it’s hard to wrap my head around sometimes. To say, God is love, still doesn’t quite answer the problem I have. Blind love? Must be I’m thinking. I feel like I live with the dogs under the table waiting for a scrap of food- anything. No matter how much I study theology and scriptures which I’ve been doing for quite a while now I find Him to be quite the anomoly. Silences with Him leave me nervous and scared sometimes, wishing for a more Santa like God without all the stressors. Obviously my dots are disconnected in places as “religion” leaves me panicky. I’m sure I’m not alone though. Beloved misfit here just musing.

  41. poohpity says:

    Is it because we look at all the things we don’t have that we want rather than looking at all the things we do have that we needed? We have adoption into God’s family; we have access to a relationship with God if we want it; we have mercy, grace and forgiveness for sins past, present and future; we are guaranteed a place in heaven; we are given the Holy Spirit to help us to learn to love as we have been loved; we are given teaching as to how to live a life filled with joy because we depend on God to see us through; we have been given a choice to no longer be held to the ways of the flesh but the ways of God.

    Or we can choose the ways of Satan and the flesh; pride, selfishness, hate, anger, bitterness, drunkenness, gluttony, unforgiveness, rage, greed, turning away from God, self dependence or reliance, lies, victimization, self pity.

  42. Beloved says:

    Not sure :-)

  43. Beloved says:

    But you’re probably right.

    God just loves me, He said, because He IS. The “is-ness” of God is where He dwells in heaven and in my heart.
    He’s splendid beauty human words can’t comprehend. Oh how I long for more of Him.

  44. Beloved says:

    James 1:5 New International Version (NIV)
    5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

  45. Beloved says:

    You are right street, Jesus gives us the truth in love and patience. So thankful.

  46. street says:

    Or we can choose the ways of Satan and the flesh; pride, selfishness, hate, anger, bitterness, drunkenness, gluttony, unforgiveness, rage, greed,

    seems to me we were born into a sinful world dead to God and dead in our coming of age, sinfulness in adam.

    thinking of the woman who poured perfume on His feet. what prompted this act of extreme devotion in her? we know she was an unclean woman, even Simon could recognize this. Jesus said this was because she loved much. we can see the love and devotion and it was quite strange to those who witnessed this event. Jesus went on to say it was because she was forgiven much. how did she know she was forgiven? this woman put many dots together .

    Who could have known that in the mercy of God there is something far greater than what prompted an enthusiastic crowd to throw their clothes and palm branches……seems to me the enthusiasm began much earlier, maybe the shepherds tending their flocks at night were called first to share in it. on the road….if we are inadvertently heading to Emmaus Jesus will turn us around with very happy feet like the shepherds.
    O soul, are you weary and troubled?
    No light in the darkness you see?
    There’s light for a look at the Savior,
    And life more abundant and free!
    Refrain:
    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
    Look full in His wonderful face,
    And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
    In the light of His glory and grace.

    Through death into life everlasting
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
    O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
    For more than conqu’rors we are!

    His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
    Believe Him, and all will be well:
    Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!

    John 13:34
    “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

    thinking about the idea we are to love our enemies too. we were all enemies at one time.

    thinking of the ten virgins & Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. happy feet? broken and contrite? humble? come Lord Jesus i thirst too.

    Is it because we look at all the things we don’t have that we want rather than looking at all the things we do have that we needed?

    Interesting you bring this up. This afternoon Jesus whispered in my ear, “you have everything you need”. So softly so gently with authority. I think that’s what triggered my reaction earlier. Inexpressible to be loved so much.

  50. poohpity says:

    If one realizes they are loved so much by God then why do they strive to gain the approval of others by flattery and deception?

    Good morning all or evening whatever the case may be.

    Reflecting on how I’ve been accused and accused others to my own shame I’m transfixed by the mercies of God on the cross. Marts words, “In the story of the Cross—Satan is allowed to enter Judas to do violence to the Son of God— with the result that the Accuser and Deceiver is deceived, exposed, and judged.” bring a different perspective and incredible ease remembering we do not fight against flesh and blood (each other) but against an enemy of God and mankind who’s been DEFEATED, but still flails about troubling believers. He even uses scripture, christianese and fancy talk making it harder to discern Truth but for the Spirit of God that’s more powerful, stronger, kinder, wiser, just and patient. And incredibly merciful.

    Grace. Love the LORD thy God with all your heart, mind soul and strength. In Jesus alone my hope is found.

    Have a Christ blessed day all.

    Bringing the captivies to freedom

    Re: @ 9:24am

    The love of God covers a multitude of sins, all forgiven, forgotten (by Him anyway) and redeemed. Learning to love as He does is a lifetime of discovery. Agreeing with you that I don’t love as I have been loved. Perhaps I will do better sooner than later.

  58. jeff1 says:

    Onward christian soldiers
    Marching as to war

    Onward then, ye people

    In our triumph song

    Christ the Royal Master
    Leads against the foe
    Forward into battle
    See His banners go

    Crowns and Thrones may perish
    Kingdoms rise and wane
    But the cross of Jesus
    Constant will remain

  59. jeff1 says:

    He was born as little children are
    and lived as children do,
    So remember that the Saviour
    was once a child like you,
    And remember that He lived on earth
    in the midst of sinful men,
    And the problems of the present
    existed even then;
    He was ridiculed and laughed at
    in the same heartbreaking way
    That we who fight for justice
    are ridiculed today;
    He was tempted . . . He was hungry . . .
    He was lonely . . . He was sad . . .
    There’s no sorrowful experience
    that the Saviour has not had;
    And in the end He was betrayed
    and even crucified,
    For He was truly “One Of Us”-
    He lived on earth and died;
    So do not heed the sceptics
    who are often heard to say:
    “What Does God Up In Heaven
    Know of Things We Face Today” . . .
    For, our Father up in heaven
    is very much aware
    Of our failures and shortcomings
    and the burdens that we bear;
    So whenever you are troubled
    put your problems in God’s Hand
    For He has faced all problems
    and He Will Understand.

    Lord, hide note your face from me. Have mercy and kindness on me and strengthen me to be obedient and holy in Christ Jesus.

  61. SFDBWV says:

    Been thinking about…This is one of my problems, thinking too much and not just resting on what I already know.

    One thing I know for certain is that the more questions you ask the more questions are opened to you. Seemingly without end.

    In “the Lord’s prayer” we ask God not to lead us into temptation, but to deliver us from evil.

    In Genesis at the very beginning of the story we are allowed to see, God did neither for Adam and Eve.

    Now I believe it to be because I believe Adam and Eve were meant to fail and so begin the story of the need for a Deliverer, a Savior, a Messiah; Jesus the Christ.

    In Job (every follower of BTA should know by now I don’t like the story of Job) Job certainly was not delivered from evil. Not considering the loss of children in spite of a rewarded end for his faithfulness.

    At the cross we come to the reason behind mankind being allowed to fail so miserably. So that God could be revealed so gloriously as willing to do whatever it took to save mankind from itself.

    At the resurrection we have “proof” that the man Jesus executed on the cross is indeed the God of our creation.

    Alerting us to remember and ponder every word He spoke while with us, as recorded for us.

    Where does this leave us, what part are we in the story?

    We are to ask God not to lead us into temptation, but to deliver us from evil.

    Yet sometimes for our own good and the good of others, God allows both for His purposes. For we also ask that His will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven, but sometimes complain when it is.

    Lead me to Calvary

    Lest I forget Gethsemane;
    Lest I forget Thine agony;
    Lest I forget Thy love for me,
    Lead me to Calvary

    Show me the tomb where Thou wast laid,
    Tenderly mourned and wept;
    Angels in robes of light arrayed
    Guarded thee while thou slept.

    Lest I forget Gethsemane;
    Lest I forget Thine agony;
    Lest I forget Thy love for me,
    Lead me to Calvary

    Let me like Mary, through the gloom
    Come with a gift to Thee;
    Show to me now the empty tomb,
    Lead me to Calvary.

    Lest I forget Gethsemane;
    Lest I forget Thine agony;
    Lest I forget Thy love for me,
    Lead me to Calvary

    May I be willing, Lord, to bear
    Daily my cross for Thee;
    Even Thy cup of grief to share,
    Thou hast borne all for me.

    Lest I forget Gethsemane;
    Lest I forget Thine agony;
    Lest I forget Thy love for me,
    Lead me to Calvary

    Fill me O Lord with thy desire,
    For all who know not thee,
    Then touch my lips with holy fire
    To speak of Calvary.

    Lest I forget Gethsemane;
    Lest I forget Thine agony;
    Lest I forget Thy love for me,
    Lead me to Calvary

    Good morning Steve and Viv. Thanks for the song, it’s perfect. I was thinking after yesterday’s fiasco here, snarkiness, complaining etc. how quickly some of us forget the beauty of the cross. It’s daily I think carrying our own cross but the purpose of crosses are as a reminder of His cross. Maybe Pentecost will renew our zeal and hope. Forgetting those things that lay behind I look ahead because of all Christ had done for me. I agree there’s nothing to like about Job, when for most all of us the future doesn’t end like his did. Lifting my cross to my shoulders I’m thankful He helps bear the yoke. Be blessed all day! Joyce

  64. foreverblessed says:

    Lead us not into temptation

    Such a mysterious question!

    I am just doing some thinking with you Steve!

    God does allow temptation into our lives.
    He even promised, that there would be no temtation beyond what we could bear!
    And as Jesus was sent into the wilderness to be tempted, why would nog we, His children, be treated likewise?

    I personally believe that God allowed Adam and Eve to be tempted, God wanted tot know: do they really choose for Me!

    He wanted to see a choice from the heart to trust God, and follow Him. Not only a paradise, and everything given to them, and angels around them, and no personal determination for their Creator and their God.

    But that is my personal conviction.

    The Lord’s prayer: lead us not into temptation..
    Could be rendered as:

    “Make, that when we are tempted, we will not forget You”

  65. Beloved says:

    Hi Forever! Thinking about temptation I remember how Jesus was brought to the desert for forty days to endure temptation. Must be a normal thing for followers also to do. Yet we know we will fail some of the time, right? Yes we need Jesus! Hope all is well in your part of the world today. Bless you!

  66. SFDBWV says:

    You see as outlined by Mart, the devil is trying to deceive us and discredit God and in the end at the cross it is the devil who is deceived.

    But I don’t see it that way at all.

    I see God using Satan wherever and whenever He wants to accomplish His will.

    At each connected dot Mart has given as example.

    It is we who need convincing, we who are the prize as well as the recipient of a greater gift and ending for our part in the story.

    Despite all the torment life will produce, in the end God accomplishes that which He began before the pages of Genesis were written. It will be we who finally see that which has been done for us and why.

    Love wins.

  68. poohpity says:

    If God did not allow temptation or trials then our free will would not have any choices to make we probably would end up being drones. We always have a choice to follow God’s teaching or the teaching of the world but God never tempts us to do evil that is just wrong thinking. Satan does everything in his power to get us to question God’s goodness and love. (i.e. temptation in the garden, temptation in the wilderness and our daily temptations to do wrong or evil)

    James 1:12 God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. 14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

    16 So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

    2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

    5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

  69. poohpity says:

    Job suffered from tornadoes, fires, sickness and warring peoples the same horrible circumstances that people suffer from today with the intent by Satan to get him to deny God. It was just made worse by so called friends who falsely accused Job and God(that they did not know so well as Job did) of things that were not true. It was a beautiful depiction of redemption from the evil forces of this world that God will put a stop to one day. Matt 13:49-50 NLT

  70. jeff1 says:

    God Knows Best

    Our Father knows what’s best for us,
    So why should we complain-
    We always want the sunshine,
    But He knows there must be rain-
    We love the sound of laughter
    And the merriment of cheer,
    But our hearts would lose their tenderness
    If we never shed a tear . . .
    Our Father tests us often
    With suffering and with sorrow,
    He tests us, not to punish us,
    But to help us meet tomorrow . . .
    For growing trees are strengthened
    When they withstand the storm,
    And the sharp cut of the chisel
    Gives the marble grace and form . . .
    God never hurts us needlessly,
    And He never wastes our pain
    For every loss He sends to us
    For every loss He sends to us
    Is followed by rich gain . . .
    And when we count the blessings
    That God has so freely sent,
    We will find no cause for murmuring
    And no time to lament . . .
    For our Father loves His children,
    And to Him all things are plain,
    So He never sends us pleasure
    When the soul’s deep need is pain . . .
    So whenever we are troubled,
    And when everything goes wrong,
    It is just God working in us
    To make our spirit strong.

    Where are we in the picture?

    thinking where is the Light the Holy Spirit the Truth the Way forward? where is hope trust and love? did they vanish? did they leave like a thief in the night? Jesus confronted the devil in the wilderness with the Word of God, Truth and Light. Adam did not confront the serpent with Truth but with his limited abilities. God made us out of dust, and dust we will return. it seems if we could not be trusted with things that have no value who would trust you with true riches? God knew our short comings. He is asking for the same trust and delight in Himself as we found in dust and emptiness. sure the dust and emptiness pass away but the trust and delight in God are eternal and not empty. thinking about loving…. to love some one you need to know them and there needs if they have them. God had no needs, yet we need Great and much love. serving love seems the only way to go. i have to admit it gets dark some times, but joy comes in the morning. light drives out darkness and He promised to never put out the smallest ember.

    Where are we in the picture? The older I get, the more I know I do not know. There are not easy answers for our human brain. God’s ways and thoughts are not like ours. I think life is similar to after one has an accident of any sort. The “what ifs” begin and will make one lose sleep and consume thoughts if allowed. Psalm 46:10 says “Be still, and know that I am God.” In context, it looks like this is referring to the tribulation, but I wonder if this “be still and know I am God” can apply to us to. Be still. . . trust. . . be still. . . trust. . trust that HE knows what is happening. Trust when we don’t understand. Maybe be still can also mean to not struggle so in trying to understand. Be still and trust that He is at work and trust Him in that work, for if we understood the why of all God does, would we really be trusting Him? Easier said than done, especially in the middle of the night. Ha I hope I haven’t taken Scripture out of context. If what was written in this post is out of line, Mart, please delete it.

    It talks of a river!
    An ever flowing supply of all the Grace, peace, love, we need!
    Psalm 46:4

  80. SFDBWV says:

    Psalms 46:10 KJV “Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen. I will be exalted in the earth.”

    Thank you Bubbles for saying it so simply.

    For several thousand years people have tried to “explain” God.

    It is actually amusing because no matter who we are all of our imaginings come from our learning experiences. We simply cannot imagine outside of our knowledge of things we know.

    But that doesn’t stop some people from thinking they have all the answers and any who disagree with them to be “wrong”.

    Funniest of all are those who believe that each of us aren’t allowed to have our own opinion, but must adopt theirs.

    We have a little joke here in our house I like to use now and again, it goes like this; “any time I feel I am smart all I need to do is watch “Jeopardy” and am quickly put in my place.”

    It can be fun and enjoyable to do Bible study and imagine what life is all about relevant to our faith. As long as we remember we actually know very little and am given just enough knowledge to give us peace within ourselves.

    Peace within ourselves is something we cannot impart to another, they have to find that for themselves.

    In doing that through and by Jesus Christ, they will not only find peace, but tolerance with their fellow man.

  82. jeff1 says:

    When I think of others who inspired my faith it is those who kept it simple and not those who tried to complicate it.

    My dad’s expectations were to keep focused on Christ and in doing so he did not complain in trials but his attitude was ‘why should I not suffer as Jesus suffered’.

    That’s what I call trust as its easy to trust God when everything is going our way but quite a different story when its not.

    Job trusted God beyond understanding and that to me shows a person who knew God well.

    Job 13:15 Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him: but I will maintain my own ways before Him.

    Life is easy, when you’re up on the mountain
    And you’ve got peace of mind, like you’ve never known
    But things change, when you’re down in the valley
    Don’t lose faith, for you’re never alone

    For the God on the mountain, is still God in the valley
    When things go wrong, He’ll make them right
    And the God of the good times, is still God in the bad times
    The God of the day, is still God in the night
    We talk of faith way up on the mountain
    But talk comes easy, when life’s at its best
    Now its down in the valleys, trials and temptations
    That’s when your faith is really put to the test

    For the God on the mountain, is still God in the valley,
    When things go wrong, He’ll make them right
    And the God of the good times, is still God in the bad times
    The God of the day, is still God in the night
    The God of the day, is still God in the night

  83. poohpity says:

    bubbles, I thought your comment was spot on. Being still or being at rest does not mean to do nothing it does mean to trust God and that is doing something. Trust Him by turning everything over to Him and watch as He works the mess we give Him into something beautiful.

    A lot of the things we learn about God come from just spending time with Him and the biggest adversary against that is Satan. Satan started in the garden well actually he started before the garden when he was cast down from heaven;

    “‘You were the seal of perfection,
    full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
    13
    You were in Eden,
    the garden of God;
    every precious stone adorned you:
    carnelian, chrysolite and emerald,
    topaz, onyx and jasper,
    lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.
    Your settings and mountings were made of gold;
    on the day you were created they were prepared.
    14
    You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
    for so I ordained you.
    You were on the holy mount of God;
    you walked among the fiery stones.
    15
    You were blameless in your ways
    from the day you were created
    till wickedness was found in you.
    16
    Through your widespread trade
    you were filled with violence,
    and you sinned.
    So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
    and I expelled you, guardian cherub,
    from among the fiery stones.
    17
    Your heart became proud
    on account of your beauty,
    and you corrupted your wisdom
    because of your splendor.
    So I threw you to the earth

    We can learn so much about how God works because many secrets have been revealed to those who are seeking and searching and the same is true about how Satan works. The Lord teaches us daily about Himself but there is so much to learn that it takes more than a life time to find out which will be complete when we see Him face to face. If anyone really wants wisdom about God all they have to do is ask and He gives generously to those who ask. That knowledge does not give power to Lord it over others but to learn to humbly “Be Still” and trust God.

  84. poohpity says:

    There are always going to be those who know God more closely than others, not that he is not available to all but some just do not care enough or desire to know more. They seem satisfied with a superficial relationship rather than a deepening one.

  85. poohpity says:

    Our daily bread for today says “As human beings, we are prone to seek out information that supports the opinions we hold. Research shows that we’re actually twice as likely to look for information that supports our position. When we’re deeply committed to our own way of thinking, we avoid having that thinking challenged by opposing positions.”

    “May we be willing to seek and listen to the voice of truth, God’s words in the Bible, even when it contradicts our personal preferences.”

    Even within families often offering a dissenting opinion is meant with anger and hostility to where no one ever speaks what they actually are thinking just to prevent rocking the boat and maintaining peace through allowing dominant personality to always be right even when they are wrong much like communism.

    Some people share what the bible says not their personal opinions.

  86. Beloved says:

    Where are we in the picture?

    Well, minus denominational, ego, and cultural differences I’d say we are right where God intended us to be long ago, which is in Christ. Our Bible study group is studying the Tabernacle, the strict rules- guidelines that needed to be followed and still some have a hard time understanding why they were necessary. The Holiness of God exposes the reality of the life we live in while we have boots on the ground. Paul said of the troubles “This ought not to be!” If we live here as we ought (not according to the flesh) we rise above the messes we and others make because Jesus rose. We can drop the connecting links as someone said or maybe we can allow the connecting links to be as remembrance markers in our life of faith. Where are we? Right where God sovereignly decides we should be.

  87. jeff1 says:

    Where are we? Hoping that God is using me for His purpose and that I am relying on Him more and myself less so that I’ll stop getting myself into messes.

    I will always remember the times God turned up in my life as it was at the most difficult times which shows when I needed God most He was there.

    I am much more of a wanderer than my dad was and why He knew God better and I believe it was because of both his stability of mind and having the kind of discipline that is rare these days but it was in his upbringing and was like 2nd nature to him.

    I think my dad would have found the world today very difficult to live in as I myself struggle as it becomes more alien to me.

    The younger generation do not know any different so it seems normal to them but if I did not believe in Jesus I would be much more frightened in this wayward world than I am.

    The more I see of this messed up world then the more I see the need I have of Jesus in my life and that does and will cause conflict with others who don’t share my view.

    Whether I feel comfortable about it or not, I am a citizen of two worlds and so too was Jesus and it is focusing on His Victory that will encourage me in my battles here on earth which are still mine while I am in the flesh but God doesn’t forsake me in them and it is that truth that I need to hang on to when Satan attacks which these days is all to often.

    Where are we in the picture?
    been connecting scripture with scripture, by faith and hope of getting it right. thinking of, give us our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those that trespass against us. connecting this with, what ever unit of measure you use to judge others it will be used to measure you. Father forgive them they do not know what they are doing. the full measure of His love. speaking the truth in love. be still and know I am God. putting down the measure is hard, best way forward is taking up the cross and following Jesus, a daily event. if not for grace and mercy we would have become like Sodom and Gomorrah.

    15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

    17 Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”

    18 She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

    19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the Lord and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah made love to his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her. 20 So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel,[b] saying, “Because I asked the Lord for him.”

  90. poohpity says:

    I do not think that Jesus was ever part of this world even though He was living in it. The reason I come to that conclusion was even though He took on flesh, He was not controlled by it but by the Spirit and was still a member of His Kingdom. If He was part of this world His actions would have been similar to ours and the world would have accepted Him but He never sinned.(John 17:14)

    People of the world accept people of the world because they are alike.(John 15:19 NLT; 1 John 4:5 NLT)

  91. Beloved says:

    “God’s compassion is not something abstract or indefinite, but a concrete, specific gesture in which God reaches out to us. In Jesus Christ we see the fullness of God’s compassion. To us, who cry out from the depth of our brokenness for a hand that will touch us, an arm that can embrace us, lips that will kiss us, a word that speaks to us here and now, and a heart that is not afraid of our fears and tremblings; to us, who feel our own pain as no other human being feels it, has felt it, or ever will feel it and who are always waiting for someone who dares to come close – to us a man has come who could truly say, ‘I am with you.’ Jesus Christ, who is God-with-us, has come to us in the freedom of love, not needing to experience our human condition but freely choosing to do so.” Nouwen

    Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey:
    Fourth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day;
    Ye that are men now serve Him against unnumbered foes;
    Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

    Stand up, stand up for Jesus! stand in His strength alone,
    The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own;
    Put on the gospel armour, and watching unto prayer,
    Where calls the voice of duty, be never wanting there.

    Stand up, stand up for Jesus! the strife will not be long;

    To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be;
    He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.

    Pressing toward the Goal
    12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it,[a] but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

    There’s no reason for living
    Life will give you a broken dream
    Filled with heartache and fear
    Turn around don’t look back again

    He will mend broken dreams
    I’ve come to far to look back again

    All the treasures I used to love
    Have all faded from view
    There’s a new day ahead for me

    Philippians3 MSG
    20-21 But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.

  104. Beloved says:

    Beautiful and whole! I really like that.

  105. jeff1 says:

    Thank you Beloved for that beautiful verse from the Bible which encourages and I slip and fall so often I spend more times on my knees than standing up for Jesus.

    Here in this divided country my Protestant friend would say those Roman Catholics never leave mass because they have so many sins to confess and I would say back to her and what do you suppose they are saying about us when they see us attending our church.

    My mother used to have a saying about people she couldn’t warm to and I never really understood as a child what she was talking about.

    They where good neighbours but my mum would always say of the woman of the house that she was too sweet to be wholesome.

    The truth is that none of us are wholesome but we see in others what we don’t see in ourselves and then are aghast when another suggests that we have shortcomings of our own.

    God is always teaching us when we have eyes and ears to listen but He won’t force us to as it is not God’s way to be controlling that is a trait of mankind’s.

    I see God in the most difficult times because it is when I am at least in control and surrender out of complete exhaustion in knowing there is nothing I can do and indeed He is King of my life.

  106. Beloved says:

    Jesus learned obedience to God through His suffering also and look at the outcome! Best to stay on our knees and let God do what He does, makes all things work out for good, His own way of turning grief and sorrow into glorious good.

  107. jeff1 says:

    I attended a funeral today, and sung one of my favourite hymns that is so often sung at funerals here; written by Scottish Anglican Henry Francis Lyte who wrote the poem in 1847 and set it to music while he lay dying from tuberculosis; he survived only a further three weeks after its completion.

    Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
    The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
    When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
    Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

    Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
    Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
    Change and decay in all around I see;
    O thou who changes not, abide with me.

    Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word,
    But as Thou dwell’st with Thy disciples, Lord,
    Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
    Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

    Thou on my head in early youth didst smile.
    And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
    Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee.
    On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

    I need thy presence every passing hour;
    What but thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
    Who like thyself my guide and stay can be?
    Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.

    I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless;
    Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness;
    Where is death’s sting? where, grave, thy victory?
    I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

    Hold thou thy Cross before my closing eyes;
    Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies;
    Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
    In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

    From Sunday morning reflections with words that warm the heart and soul.

    In this house we’ve built of make believe
    Loved ones go long before seems its time to leave
    But we will learn how to grieve, to forgive and receive
    ‘Til we see them there in that city

    Span of stars overhead as we walk this road
    While this darkness remains I will bear your load
    And together we will tend the seed He’s sown
    As we walk along the road to that city

    On that day we will sing “Holy, Holy”
    On that day we’ll bow down in the light
    And then we’ll rise and turn our eyes
    To the One who’s the light, the light of that city

    Though my eyes can’t see what is waiting there
    Though my mind can’t conceive all that He’s prepared
    There the blind will see the sun
    What was old will be young
    And the lame, they will run all over the streets of that City

    On that day we will sing “Holy, Holy”
    On that day we’ll bow down in the light
    And then we’ll rise and turn our eyes
    To the Lord, Jesus Christ
    On that day we will sing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy”

    On that day we’ll bow down in the light
    And then we’ll rise and turn our eyes
    To the Lord, Jesus Christ
    He’s the light of that City

  111. Beloved says:

    Connecting the dots.

    Let God Define Good
    God at times permits tragedies. He permits the ground to grow dry and stalks to grow bare. He allows Satan to unleash mayhem. But he doesn’t allow Satan to triumph. Isn’t this the promise of Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (NIV)? God promises to render beauty out of “all things,” not “each thing.” The isolated events may be evil, but the ultimate culmination is good.

    We see small examples of this in our own lives. When you sip on a cup of coffee and say, “This is good,” what are you saying? The plastic bag that contains the beans is good? The beans themselves are good? Hot water is good? A coffee filter is good? No, none of these. Good happens when the ingredients work together: the bag opened, the beans ground into powder, the water heated to the right temperature. It is the collective cooperation of the elements that creates good.

    Nothing in the Bible would cause us to call a famine good or a heart attack good or a terrorist attack good. These are terrible calamities, born out of a fallen earth. Yet every message in the Bible, especially the story of Joseph, compels us to believe that God will mix them with other ingredients and bring good out of them.

    But we must let God define ‘good.’ Our definition includes health, comfort, and recognition. His definition? In the case of his Son, Jesus Christ, the good life consisted of struggles, storms, and death. But God worked it all together for the greatest of good: his glory and our salvation. John Piper

  112. poohpity says:

    Very beneficial teaching from John Piper about why God would allow. Somethings in and of themselves may not be good but when God touches them together it brings about good. Beauty from ashes.

  113. Beloved says:

    1If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;

    13:3 Some manuscripts read sacrificed my body to be burned. but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

  114. Beloved says:

    The deceiver deceived-

    What It Means to Pray for Your Enemy

    “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)

    Prayer for your enemies is one of the deepest forms of love, because it means that you have to really want that something good happen to them. John Piper

  115. Beloved says:

    Good morning all! God is so good. He has been teaching me how to live in a world filled with deception. He’s so good.

    Having a sense of being loved deeply by Christ allows us to forgive when someone wrongs us because we can afford to be generous. Timothy Keller

  116. jeff1 says:

    I wish it were that simple in a country that has been divided by its history because unfortunately most victims families who were killed by bombs or bullets want justice as I imagine they see it as the work of evil rather than God’s will for their loved one and so it seems right to them that those guilty should be brought to justice.

    I cannot say I would feel any differently in their shoes and its best to be honest with God about feeling that way.
    I know a member of our church lost her husband in a terrorist attack and she said the best she can do is leave it in God’s hands because its to painful for her to go there and she has to find peace within herself and sometimes that means forgetting rather than forgiving.

    In the end only God can truly forgive and have mercy on who He has mercy and that takes it out of the hands of the victim who has suffered enough and just needs to heal themselves so that they can get on with their life.

    In our personal life it is easier to work out a wrong between individuals but the wrongs of war are much more involved and there is no easy way to resolve it and why so many of our younger generation have moved away to Australia and the likes rather than get caught up in the negativity of it all.

    There are no winners in war but only God can see that and why His way is so different to mankind.

  117. Beloved says:

    Jesus showed us God’s way, seek learn and follow Him.

  118. Beloved says:

    Having the mercy gift I tend to often get too caught up in what others say and think. I can get easily swayed sometimes by what others say, or get chastised for appearing to agre/ disagree with others. It’s the world! What amazes me is how God is able to cut through the voices both inner and outer so I can hear His voice. But then, He’s God and created my mind, ears, voice! I forget. But He doesn’t change. Faithful and true. I love my warrior King. Your dad was a warrior wasn’t he.

    Silence, a lovers Chase? Yes.

  120. street says:

    a lovers rest?

  121. jeff1 says:

    It is trusting in Jesus that gives us the strength to get through this world as He doesn’t forsake us even when I slip and fall He is there to pick me up again which is what gives me the encouragement to fight the good fight.

    Fight the good fight with all thy might!
    Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right;
    Lay hold on life, and it shall be
    Thy joy and crown eternally.

    Run the straight race through God’s good grace,
    Lift up thine eyes, and seek His face;
    Life with its way before us lies,
    Christ is the path, and Christ the prize.

    Cast care aside, lean on thy Guide,
    His boundless mercy will provide;
    Trust, and thy trusting soul shall prove
    Christ is its life, and Christ its love.

    Faint not nor fear, His arms are near,
    He changeth not, and thou art dear;
    Only believe, and thou shalt see
    That Christ is all in all to thee.

    In the story of the Cross—Satan is allowed to enter Judas to do violence to the Son of God— with the result that the Accuser and Deceiver is deceived, exposed, and judged.

    yes Jesus payed it all and we share in this suffering. thinking some suffering is allowed against us by the accuser/deceiver. to be exposed and judged. some how the jury system comes to mind. all must render a verdict. it is better to suffer for doing right than to suffer for sin. God’s Spirit is our guide and motive is essential in determining where our heart is. not to judge before the time. still hard to stay out of the seat of Moses. if i understand Ephesians right we are seated in Christ. the temple takes a beating, but i remind you flesh and blood can not inherit the kingdom of God. it is God’s chosen vessel for service. God’s grace and mercy in abundance.

  124. SFDBWV says:

    Good morning all. Life has kept me pretty busy, but I look in every morning to see what is up on BTA. As of late I just stay out of the thread of conversation that seems somewhat to be among others and at my age try to catch a little rest between morning duties.

    I know all too well Mart is also tired and overused. Trying to feed us a subject for us to discuss is a strain on him and while I appreciate his efforts on our behalf there is only so much I can say concerning each subject before I begin to repeat myself.

    There are many abstract thoughts that also germinate from within the subject matter, but I try to be cautious and not distract or heaven forbid confuse anyone.

    There are as many books written on each line of Marts comments as well as opinions with attached Scripture verses to accompany and if we truly wanted to have a lively discussion on each we could.

    However I am not sure neither I nor many of you are up to it.

    I was encouraged this morning to read about an official Bible study group made up of White House Presidential staff this morning. The first such group in 100 years as the story went.

    It was an interesting story from several angles.

    I pray that whomever you are and wherever you are today that you do your best to be Christ like in all of your endeavors and activities.

    All my life I longed to be a hero
    My sword raised high, running to the battle
    I was gonna take giants down
    Be a man you would write about
    Deep in my chest is the heart of a warrior

    So why am I still standing here?
    Why am I still holding back from You?
    I hear You call me out into deeper waters
    But I settle on the shallow end
    So why am I still standing here?

    So afraid what it might cost to follow You
    I’d walk by faith if I could get these feet to move
    But I don’t want to live that way
    I don’t want to look back someday
    On a life that never stepped across the line

    So why am I still standing here?
    Why am I still holding back from You?
    You’ve given me a faith that can move a mountain
    But I’m still playing in the sand
    Building little kingdoms that’ll never stand
    I hear You call me out into deeper waters
    But I settle on the shallow end

    I’m so tired of standing here
    What if I gave everything to You?

    What if I gave everything?
    What if I stopped holding back from You?
    Starting now, I’m stepping out onto deeper waters
    What if I gave everything?
    What if I stopped holding back from You?
    Starting now, I’m stepping out onto deeper waters
    I want to see some mountains move

    Ready to give everything
    Say goodbye to standing here

    Don’t you know, I’d fly to the top of a mountain and they I’d cry

    Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
    Babe, before you abuse, criticise and accuse
    Better walk a mile in my shoes
    Try before what you’re doing

    Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
    Oh, before you abuse, criticise and accuse
    Walk a mile in my shoes

  127. Beloved says:

    Steve you say Mart is feeling tired and overused by the blog? Now I do feel terrible about posting on here so much. I’m so sorry Mart, I’ve been taking advantage of your hospitality here and I’m sure I am getting tiresome to listen to with not much new to say but complain about myself. Thanks for the heads up Steve. I need to find a new hobby. I so appreciate the ODB ministries and the encouragement they bring us in Jesus.

  128. poohpity says:

    Beloved, I bet that Steve is just assuming and jumping to conclusions about Mart and really does not know for sure how Mart is feeling or what he is thinking. Even if Mart told him, he probably would misunderstand what Mart said anyway as has happened in the past. From what I know of Mart he would not make people feel unwanted, he is way to kind to think the way Steve assumes.

  129. Beloved says:

    I think Marts kindness and sensitivity could make it hard for him to end the blog without a major life event. But we all get tired, especially those of us over 60! God will supply.

  130. Beloved says:

    Viv Jesus has walked in your shoes.

  131. poohpity says:

    That reminds me of Job’s friends when God explained to Job’s friends that they neither said what was right about Job or about God. God exposes if anyone really listens.

    Mart seems still very active in writing ODB devotions and doing Discover The Word. My hunch is other things a well in sharing the Gospel. lol or fishing or playing golf. I often ask myself if people did not comment on the topics that I write about would I still write them and I would have to say I do not know what I would do.

  132. jeff1 says:

    Beloved, I am not tired of listening as I often find it is what someone has said to me in the past that resonates with me in the future.

    My head can be all over the place one day while another day I can feel God’s presence and know peace of mind.

    Our thoughts shared are what helps us to grow and God is patient with us as He knows how fragile we can be.

    I believe what is said on here whether I am in agreement or not is said out of one trying to show another their understanding and so we can discuss.

    Perhaps if Mart does feel the blog is not going the way he intended then he will discontinue but in that case it would be as much my tendency to be inconsistent in my postings as it would you Beloved.

    I am not always in a good place mind wise and that reflects in my words but this blog has helped me greatly and that includes complaining as at least I don’t feel guilty for complaining but get it out in the open.

    I have a tendency to bottle up my thoughts/feelings as I feel guilty for having them and that often causes me more distress inwardly if you get where I am coming from.

  133. Beloved says:

    I do get where you are coming from. A good listener is hard to find. Having been in therapy for many years i still struggle with abandonment issues and always will, like you with your troubles, thats why its so important to have a place that points me to Christ every day, because while i must live i need Him now as in the future. And God uses people to help his broken ones get through as we cant stand/walk without assistance. I told a therapist once that suicide was not an option for me because if i died I’d be with Jesus same as i am alive. So why do it? Let Him decide when im done with flesh. But its hard navigating life with a limp. Friends make it a little easier.

  134. jeff1 says:

    Yes, Beloved, I know Jesus understands all our suffering but it is me understanding another’s suffering that I fall short in doing.

    What do I know of what it is to walk in another person’s shoes and yet I make observations which makes me wonder about how another has led their life and often form opinion’s that are not unlike what Job’s friends did in thinking well they must have done something to mess up their life.

    Take an alcoholic who dies from a drink related disease then I come to the conclusion that it was his choice to drink.
    What do I know of that person’s walk in life or what made them drink, nothing, so I make judgements that are not mine to make as only God can be the rightful judge.

    There is a thin line between following God and playing God and I know because I have crossed it. My dad knew the difference and didn’t cross it.

    It takes God given righteousness to know the difference.

  135. Beloved says:

    mart and steve please disregard.

    The thin line is when following Jesus (God) we know that He never lorded his status over others, even when he was condemned to death. He could have called 10000 angels to rescue him but he didnt. Humility, faith love trust hope all these things and more!. Its easy to tell the difference between Jesus and a god of our own making/experience. Sometimes ive have to say, Peter, put down your sword! We are all still learning, arent we.

  136. street says:

    In the ultimate twist of fate, the glory of God is revealed and confirmed by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

    the Glory of God is the Love of God.

    revealed and confirmed by faith. a resurrection from the dead. new life in an old wine skin? no, new hearts. new hope, new life, new affections. thinking about how peter ran across old affections with his friends from james.

    Galatians 5:24
    Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

    grace and mercy continue, they fail not in Christ Jesus.

  137. Beloved says:

    5 For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. 6 But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

  138. Beloved says:

    Lol! My list of what I think I need just got smaller. Christ is all in all, everything I need is found in Him.

  139. Beloved says:

    Ready to give everything. Say goodbye to standing here

    Deep calls to deep. He’s not safe, but he’s good.

    LYRICS
    Slow down, take time
    Breath in He said
    He’d reveal what’s to come
    The thoughts in His mind
    Always higher than mine
    He’ll reveal all to come
    Take courage my heart
    Stay steadfast my soul
    He’s in the waiting
    He’s in the waiting
    Hold onto your hope
    As your triumph unfolds
    He’s never failing
    He’s never failing
    Sing praise my soul
    Find strength in joy
    Let His Words lead you on
    Do not forget His great faithfulness
    He’ll finish all He’s begun
    So take courage my heart
    Stay steadfast my soul
    He’s in the waiting
    He’s in the waiting
    Hold onto your hope
    As your triumph unfolds
    He’s never failing
    He’s never failing
    Take courage my heart
    Stay steadfast my soul
    He’s in the waiting
    He’s in the waiting
    Hold onto your hope
    As your triumph unfolds
    He’s never failing
    He’s never failing
    And You who hold the stars
    Who call them each by name
    Will surely keep, Your promise to me
    That I will rise, in Your victory
    And You who hold the stars
    Who call them each by name
    Will surely keep, Your promise to me
    That I will rise, in Your victory!

  141. street says:

    And You who hold the stars

    thinking of the emotions mary went through in the garden that first day. thinking Him a gardener. what joy she must have felt as her heart burst when He called her by name.

  142. street says:

    surprised by joy

  143. jeff1 says:

    Surprised and overwhelmed that His love is greater than not just my sin but the worlds sin.

    In my heart of hearts, I know this, though Satan plays havoc with my head, but my heart will overcome my head someday, and I will know God’s peace as it is His will for me to do so.

    I was sinking deep in sin,
    Far from a peaceful shore,
    Very deeply stained within,
    Sinking to rise no more;
    But the Master of the sea,
    Heard my despairing cry,
    From the waters lifted me,
    Now safe am I.
    Love lifted me! Love lifted me!(2X)
    When nothing else could help,
    Love lifted me.

    All my heart to Him I give,
    Ever to Him I’ll cling,
    In His blessed presence live,
    Ever His praises sing;
    Love so mighty and so true,
    Merits my souls best songs;
    Faithful loving service, too,
    To Him belongs.
    Love lifted me! love lifted me!(2X)
    When nothing else could help,
    Love lifted me.

    Souls in danger, look above,
    Jesus completely saves;
    He will lift you by His love,
    Out of angry waves,
    He’s the Master of the sea,
    Billows His will obey;
    He your Saviour wants to be,
    Be saved today.
    Love lifted me! Love lifted me!(2X)
    When nothing else could help,
    Love lifted me.

  144. SFDBWV says:

    “The Fate’s”; The Moirai, “Apportioners” the three incarnations of destiny.

    Clotho (spinner) spun the tread of life.
    Lachesis (allotter) measured the thread of life.
    Atropos (inexorable, inevitable) cut the thread of life.

    “In the ultimate twist of (fate), the Glory of God is revealed and confirmed by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.”

    It would seem to me that this surprise of Jesus’ resurrection was a shock and surprise to His followers more than to anyone.

    In fact even though Jesus was quite blunt in His teaching it took His physical absence from the tomb and physical appearance before them before they finally understood He was not actually dead as they understood death. St Thomas as it is written had to put his fingers into Jesus’ wounds before he would believe.

    God made certain that Jesus was crucified by using each player in their part of placing Him there.

    Judas had to have the added obsession of Satan himself in order to betray Jesus. Evidently without Satan’s added influence and occupation of Judas’ being Judas was unable to betray Jesus. God had to “push” him.

    Do I think Satan was surprised? Not at all.

    The cross was Jesus’ purpose and the culmination of God’s plans from before the foundation of the world. Just as yours and my salvation was fixed from before the foundation of the world.

    God is in control of all things…Even the “fates”.

    34 degrees and cloudy.

  145. Beloved says:

    He wounds but He heals Job 5:18

  146. poohpity says:

    I was thinking that no one can connect the epic dots unless they know a little about the differing dots. Just like solving crimes by detectives they learn about the people and the crimes to be able to connect the dots to solve crimes. Doctors also learn about many things before they can come up with a diagnosis. Mathematicians have to know the rules of math before they can solve an equation. Plumbers have to know how the plumbing works before they fix a problem.

    While Jesus walked with His disciples they still had yet to realize who He actually was. It wasn’t until they experienced the resurrection and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit did the dots actually get connected. That is when they could write the Gospels not before. They had to gather the information and put it all together before they would share their experiences with us.

    Sometimes it seems more often than not that people base people and circumstances on how they are not actually on who the other person is or base circumstance on how they think or their limited sight yet are unable to see the bigger picture because the confines of self is in the way. One can not see the hand or heart of God until their focus is off their own understanding in their own little tiny world by increasing a bigger vision and learning about things they have known nothing about, then the range of sight increases and then they are able to connect more dots.

  147. poohpity says:

    Beloved, that Job passage shows how much Eliphaz DID NOT know about God.

  148. poohpity says:

    Steve, I do not pay much attention to Greek Mythology because each of the fates you listed really take God out of everything and put life into the fantasy world or in the range of myths rather than reality.

  149. Beloved says:

    Jacob Wrestles with God
    22 The same night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven children,[a] and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and everything else that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. 26 Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 And he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.” 28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,[b] for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.” 29 Then Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” But he said, “Why is it that you ask my name?” And there he blessed him. 30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel,[c] saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.” 31 The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.

  150. poohpity says:

    That meeting is what they call Christophanies or Theophanies which is God or Christ appearing as man.

  151. Beloved says:

    Jacob, Job, Jesus, all wounded by God.

  152. poohpity says:

    Although the disciples had yet to connect the dots, Jesus had told them in advance what was going to happen to Him through the death and resurrection. Not only did He tell His disciples in advance it was foretold thousands of years in advance as Jesus taught them from Isaiah, so maybe the surprise was it came to be since they, humankind, had doubted God from the beginning.

  153. Beloved says:

    Proverbs 27:6AMP Faithful are the wounds of a friend [who corrects out of love and concern], But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful [because they serve his hidden agenda].

  154. Beloved says:

    Epic dots
    Jesus said I no longer call you servants but friends.

  155. poohpity says:

    Beloved, was it God who wounded Job? I thought it was Satan. Did God wound Jesus or was it us who were the reason for His suffering?

  156. Beloved says:

    God’s sovereignty overall. He wounds and he heals. Satan is God’s creation. He let Satan create chaos. Who wins every time? God. Cosmic battles are beyond our control. Submission to God through Jesus is the only way through.

  157. SFDBWV says:

    Someone once wrote there is nothing as certain as death and taxes, Benjamin Franklin I think.

    Equally there is nothing as certain as anytime I post my thoughts there is a string of “pooh” postings.

    It is actually quite humorous, like feeding the birds all I need do is put out some food and the birds come in.

    I apologize to any of you that read my abstract thoughts and are offended by them. They are just my musings and an attempt to liven up the conversation here.

    She (pooh) wastes her time if she thinks I read anything she has to say, because I do not. I already know all she has to say regarding my thoughts.

    It is also funny that when she told all of us off and left that I knew she would be right back. Though I did enjoy her absence for that little brief time. Just like a bad penny it always shows up.

    Once again I hope my musings don’t offend anyone as that is never my intention.

    Steve

  158. jeff1 says:

    How many times have I been a doubting Thomas until I seen the hand of God in my life and how often I forget His goodness when faced with the difficulties of this world.

    The chimes of times ring out the news
    Another day is through
    Someone slipped and fell,
    Was that someone you?

    You may have longed for added strength
    Your courage to renew
    Do not be disheartened
    I have news for you.

    It is no secret what God can do,
    What He has done for others,
    He’ll do for you.
    With arms wide open
    He’ll pardon you
    It is no secret what God can do.

    There is no night, for in His light
    You’ll never walk alone.
    You’ll always feel at home wherever you may roam,
    There is no power can conquer you,
    While God is on your side.
    Take Him at His promise,
    Don’t run away and hide.

    It is no secret what God can do,
    What He has done for others,
    He’ll do for you.
    With arms wide open,
    He’ll pardon you.
    It is no secret what God can do…

  159. Beloved says:

    Funny, I was thinking about the woman that washed Jesus feet with her hair, the Samaritan woman who gave water to Jesus, and the tax collector who had Jesus to dinner just yesterday. What I was thinking was that even though Jesus saved them, I’m sure being adults and fully grown their mannerisms and even some actions didn’t change immediately and so they must still have suffered much persecution. But what does it matter really if they are now citizens of the Kingdom of God? It’s life here that’s tough and often unrelentingly so. Sometimes a good memory is a real curse to ours and others’ growth in grace. Sadly so. But God is bigger than them all! Joyously so! Praise You GOD!

  160. Beloved says:

    It is no secret what God can do.

  161. poohpity says:

    Beloved, you are using something said by Eliphaz to base what you think about God and as God told Job they knew nothing about Him to be even to say anything about God. So the quote, “He wounds and he heals” is spoken from someone who is so ignorant about God per God not me. Job 42:7

    Steve, if you do not read anything I write how do you know what is said to put it down. I think of things to write before I even read anything you write Steve not because of what you write. It is not about you and I respect your care of your son but not the things you write about God because I know that most of it is false teaching and does not often go along with what is taught in the bible which is what I was taught to compare everything written against which is the reason I know that it is mostly false teaching.

  162. poohpity says:

    I care deeply about the teaching of Jesus so that people will know Him for what He teaches and those who teach people from their own musings is just how Satan uses people to detract, deceive and accuse from knowing the truth. Hopefully everyone on here will stand for the truth they know and not speak from what they do not know and speak as if they do.

  163. Beloved says:

    They were probably quoting from Moses what they understood about God as told to Moses. Deuteronomy 32:39 as you said, the book of Job tells of Gods redemption (future). Do we get what we deserve? Thankfully no. Jesus paid it all! Does God change? No! Many times when Israel sinned against God they were sent destructive forces by God. He is a Holy God and abhors evil. He wounds and he heals. Hes not safe, but He is good!

  164. jeff1 says:

    Life is tough and why when I slip and fall I need encouragement and understanding and though I expect that help will come from other believers it is not always the case.

    I have been encouraged by people from all walks of life and of different denominations from myself who are caring people irrespective that they hold different beliefs.

    People who are not putting their trust in Christ can still have a caring nature and that will attract me to them as I reciprocate to how others behave to me.

    God is changing the world bit by bit and we are partakers who have to share the world with others and challenging as that may be it is knowing that God is with us in our endeavours and that the end justifies the means as now we see in part but one day we will see with perfect clarity and why trusting God is the right thing to do.

  165. Beloved says:

    New Living Translation
    Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you. Peter

  166. Beloved says:

    Dear Steve,
    It hurt my heart when you likened Pooh to a “bad penny”.

  167. Beloved says:

    But I prayed for both of you.

  168. jeff1 says:

    Living in a fallen world means that personalities clash irrespective of our beliefs and why God is so patient with us because He knows the fragility of our characters.

    I have seen it in church, communities, work places and at home and think how God must surely have a sense of humour when it comes to His children.

    As Steve says it is quite humorous how predictable Pooh’s response is to his posts and it isn’t a bad thing to reflect on the funny side as it lightens the response.

  169. street says:

    seems to me dirty feet. when i slip and fall i need a bull horn or lightning bolt, but i am starting to understand grace can be a painful wake up call too, but only when received.

  170. poohpity says:

    Beloved, this is a response to your 12:01pm comment. Job seems to have been written around the time of Abraham and the other Patriarchs way before Moses writing Deuteronomy came about.

    It is also OK that Steve likens me to a bad penny I know he does not understand the things I write about so therefore reacts negatively to them. (1 Cor 2:14 NLT)

  171. Beloved says:

    God is so serious about sin he killed His own Son so we could become children of God. Condescension is rude and unworthy of a child of God. “Esteeming others as better than ourselves” is very hard to do without knowledge of the cross. Even with that knowledge it still takes a humility borne out of suffering. Or should anyway. Slowly learning myself here, as I work on connecting the dots.

  172. Beloved says:

    Receiving grace takes a lot of courage sometimes.

  173. jeff1 says:

    1 Cor 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

    Love conquers all and has its own reward for those who walk with love walk in heaven with God above.

    Love Divine, all loves excelling,
    Joy of heaven, to earth come down,
    Fix in us Thy humble dwelling,
    All Thy faithful mercies crown.
    Jesus, Thou art all compassion,
    Pure unbounded love Thou art;
    Visit us with Thy salvation,
    Enter every trembling heart.

    Come, almighty to deliver;
    Let us all Thy grace receive;
    Suddenly return, and never;
    Never more Thy temples leave.
    Thee we would be always blessing,
    Serve Thee as Thy hosts above,
    Pray, and praise Thee, without ceasing,
    Glory in Thy perfect love.

    Finish then Thy new creation
    Pure and spotless let us be;
    Let us see Thy great salvation,
    Perfectly restored in Thee,
    Changed from glory into glory,
    Till in heaven we take our place,
    Till we cast our crowns before Thee
    Lost in wonder, love, and praise!

  174. phpatato says:

    And in Steve’s case, speaking the truth takes a lot of courage too because people who speak the truth are usually met with shame, criticism and a face full of stones that have been hurled at them in an attempt to silence them.

    Majority will agree that what he said was the truth and because there absolutely should be zero tolerance to bullying, that everyone in this room will stand up to the bully that has come back to terrorize this room again and again. We must never turn a blind eye or candy-coat the behaviour with friendliness.

    One can still be a Christian and make a stand against evil.

  175. Beloved says:

    I apologize for sharing my sensitivities here. It doesnt matter how I feel. Its the gospel thats important. Im sorry for creating disharmony today. It was very insensitive of me.

  176. Beloved says:

    Interestingly this email went to my junk mail instead of inbox. I decided to go through junk (unusual for me). So glad i did as it clears things up a bit for me about blogging.
    john piper:

    What Is Well-Placed Shame?

    When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. (Romans 6:20–21)

    When a Christian’s eyes are opened to the God-dishonoring evil of his former behavior, he rightly feels ashamed. Paul says to the Roman church, “When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death” (Romans 6:20–21).

    There is a proper place for looking back and feeling the twinge of pain that we once lived in a way that was so belittling to God. We will see in a moment that we are not to be paralyzed by dwelling on this. But a sensitive Christian heart cannot think back on the follies of youth and not feel echoes of the shame, even if we have settled it all with the Lord.

    Well-placed shame can be very healthy and redemptive. Paul said to the Thessalonians, “If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed” (2 Thessalonians 3:14). This means that shame is a proper and redemptive step in conversion and in a believer’s repentance from a season of spiritual coldness and sin. Shame is not something to be avoided at all costs. There is a place for it in God’s good dealings with his people.

    We can conclude that the biblical criterion for misplaced shame and for well-placed shame is radically God-centered.

    The biblical criterion for misplaced shame says, Don’t feel shame for something that honors God, no matter how weak or foolish or wrong it makes you look in the eyes of other people. And don’t take on to yourself the shamefulness of a truly shameful situation unless you are in some way truly woven into the evil.

    The biblical criterion for well-placed shame says, Do feel shame for having a hand in anything that dishonors God, no matter how strong or wise or right it makes you look in the eyes of others.

  177. jeff1 says:

    I think Beloved the last verse says it all for me because I am ashamed that my thoughts and words often do dishonour God. Its why I find it difficult to see myself as a friend of Jesus and clinging to the cross and taking refuge there is where I feel most at home with God.

    Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
    Let me hide myself in Thee;
    Let the water and the blood,
    From Thy riven side which flowed,
    Be of sin the double cure.
    Cleanse me from its guilt and power.

    Not the labour of my hands
    Can fulfil Thy laws demands;
    Could my zeal no respite know;
    Could my tears forever flow,
    All for sin could not atone;
    Thou must save, and Thou alone.

    Nothing in my hand I bring,
    Simply to Thy cross I cling;
    Naked, come to Thee for dress;
    helpless, look to Thee for grace;
    Foul, I to the fountain fly;
    Wash me, Saviour or I die!

    While I draw this fleeting breath,
    When mine eyes shall close in death,
    When I soar to worlds unknown,
    See Thee on Thy judgement throne,
    Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
    Let me hide myself in Thee.

  178. poohpity says:

    “Where are we in the picture?” It would seem still being accused and deceived by the evil forces of this world. Whenever I let things take a foot hold it effects almost every other area of my life. Honesty goes out the door replaced with lies and deception, embracing the mercy of God makes me feel and think it is alright to be myself no matter the responses of others.

    Eph 4: Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

    25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. 26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

    Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

  179. poohpity says:

    Paul goes on in his letter to the Ephesians to say that our battle is not against each other but against the lies and deception of evil forces of this world. When one has allowed those forces to corrupt our minds with lies only the truth brings light and Jesus is that truth. So speak His words not vain philosophies or myths of this world, Col 2:8 NLT which often corrupt the way we think and although they may sound flowery they lead away from God not to Him. So share His words.

    Col 3: 12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

    16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

  180. poohpity says:

    So when people call other people names which is slander where is that coming from? The world or from the spirit of Christ. When people falsely accuse others where is that coming from or lie about what they know, where is that coming from? There is absolutely nothing wrong with not knowing something but leading others to believe that you do is deception and that comes from the evil forces of this world. There is nothing wrong with having all the feelings we do have but how we react can lead to problems but God in His great mercy has shown us a better way to act. Will we do it perfectly, no, that is where grace comes in and God seems to continue to teach us but we have to learn what He is teaching us. So where do we learn from His guide book or the philosophies of this world?

  181. poohpity says:

    That guide book also teaches us about how Satan works, how the world works and how human beings work but most importantly how God works. So we can speak as Job’s friends did without any knowledge of God or from the little bit God has given us to know. The biggest lesson for me is that God cares deeply for ALL humanity so much so He laid down His Deity and authority to visit mankind and experience what we go through so that when we come to Him we know that He knows what we are talking about.

  182. jeff1 says:

    It is so sad that we do not always practise what we preach and perhaps today why actions speak much louder than words.

    My dad was a man of few words as wisdom taught him that all to often they add fuel to the fire and he was proved to be right as words are weapons, but there will always be those who like the sound of their own voices in this world and so I must choose carefully whom to listen to.

    In my lifetime I have learned more from people who say little but a lot because they speak when they have something constructive rather than destructive to say.

    Silence is often golden in this world.

    Oh don’t it hurt deep inside
    To see someone do something to her
    Oh don’t it pain to see someone cry
    How especially if that someone is her

    Silence is golden, but my eyes still see
    Silence is golden, golden but my eyes still see

    Talking is cheap people follow like sheep
    Even though there is no where to go
    How could she tell he deceived her so well
    Pity she’ll be the last one to know

    How many times will she fall for his lines
    Should I tell her or should I be cool
    And if I tried I know she’d say I lied
    Mind your business don’t hurt her you fool

    Silence is golden, but my eyes still see
    Silence is golden, golden but my eyes still see

    Bubbles is on my heart today. Praying.

  184. poohpity says:

    Viv, I believe that we can often fall into trouble when we speak a lot but when we are given a platform to share things about what the topics presents is it talking to much to talk about that subject when a majority of the other conversation often has nothing to do with it? Is sharing long stanza’s of songs talking to much? Is talking about connecting the dots talking to much? But maybe sharing opinions of others and calling names may be a way of talking to much and about the wrong things that maybe areas better left unsaid, or accusing people or assuming things we do not know saying to much?

    Sometimes rather than just sharing addresses of verses writing them out does take up more space and may seem like it is talking to much just like writing the name of a song rather than sharing all the words of a song can seem like talking a lot too. Sharing the words of a song can show another how they touched our lives just like sharing scripture can do the same.

  185. jeff1 says:

    Pooh, I’m saying that a man like my dad put his brain into gear before his mouth and therefor did not dishonour God by his words while I can remember others who proclaimed to know God who were careless with theirs.

    I am saying that words matter more than we realise and that those who are careless with them do damage to relationships which in turn causes strife and mayhem among others.

    I am saying if you have nothing good to say then often it is better to be silent as I believe God would rather I be silent than cause strife and mayhem among His followers.

    My mother had an aunt who used to visit her and she never had anything good to say about anyone and my mum hated to see her coming because she said she could rise strife in heaven.

    In the end my mum banished her from the house as she could see that a leopard never changes its spots.

  186. street says:

    Luke 3:10
    And the crowds were questioning him, saying, “Then what shall we do?”

    John 5:19
    Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

    23 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, 2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; 3 therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. 4 They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. 5 But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. 6 They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men. 8 But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. 11 But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.

    Dr. thinks I have neuropathy. I cannot sleep for the pain and other pain. I am really tired and have bad days. He said I could take medication, but I don’t know if I want to do that or not. Thank you. I prayed this pain would not be as bad so I could sleep. It’s hard to work when one cannot sleep.

  189. Beloved says:

    Thats what i was led to pray for, sleep so you can work. Praying the neuropathy will be healed or controlled.

    What Wondrous Love Is This
    By: American Folk Hymn
    What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
    What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
    What wondrous love is this
    That caused the Lord of bliss
    To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
    To bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

    When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
    When I was sinking down, sinking down,
    When I was sinking down
    Beneath God’s righteous frown,
    Christ laid aside His crown for my soul for my soul,
    Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

    To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing;
    To God and to the Lamb I will sing;
    To God and to the Lamb,
    Who is the great I AM,
    While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
    While millions join the theme, I will sing.

    And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
    And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
    And when from death I’m free
    I’ll sing His love for me,
    And through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
    And through eternity I’ll sing on.
