The Politics of Jesus

If Jesus was a king, he was a different kind of king. His politics and policies call for a different kind of revolution. His wars are to be fought with a different kind of spirit. His victories with a different understanding of outcomes.

If Jesus was a king, his face doesn’t need to be seen for his influence to be understood. His voice doesn’t need to be heard for his will to be done.

If Jesus is the real leader of the free world, a hint of his presence, politics, and accomplishments are seen in the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of his citizens.

Yes, His citizens live the Kingdom life in their thinking, feelings and actions, it is a new life that places Him at the head of everything. He rises above our five senses to down deep within our souls not in perfection but through a process.( 2 Cor 3:17-18 NLT; Phil 1:6 NLT)

No other King can change the hearts or minds of their citizens. His Kingship does not rule by oppression or suppression but by freedom. Praise to the King!

  4. SFDBWV says:

The leader of the free world…

In the beginning God created something good, man soon corrupted it.

If you consider the post WWII world of the “West” as being the “free world” then you have to look at why it may be considered that Jesus is the leader of it.

Ever since Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire, while the religion of the empire was led by Jesus, the empire was still led by Constantine.

If Constantine was in fact a born again Christian then he and his decisions were flavored with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all matters, making the true leader of the empire Jesus.

However if you look at history the Holy Roman Empire didn’t always follow what some of us may see as Christ-like behavior.

At the end of the age many see a resurgence of the Roman Empire playing a large part in the politics of the time, when in truth much of the world especially the western world is still the remnant of the Roman Empire.

It doesn’t actually need resurged, just a return to its pagan roots and abandonment of fundamental Christian beliefs altogether.

I am embarrassed and heartbroken at the political events of my country. The fruits of the Spirt are in no fashion demonstrated in President Trump and whereas some may have looked at the USA as the leader of the free world, I don’t see that title being appropriate for him nor our political body in Washington at this time in history.

After 8 years of a president who did not consider the USA to be a Christian nation and now a self-serving bully who really considers himself as setting on a throne rather than serving the people. Politically we are destroying ourselves.

Yet all over the world in every nation whether free or under the boot of tyranny there is a nation of people who are not of this political world and only bow to Jesus as Lord and King.

And we long for the return of our “Leader” even as we already are led by Him in spirit.

I believe our current President is fighting for the freedoms that have been slowly taken away from us by government influence. He is for less government and more control by the people to manage their lives for themselves. But of course those who have been led astray and do not bother to look at facts think otherwise because they have been fed on propaganda as truth and are gullible to the influence of the media.

  8. Beloved says:

Yes, Jesus is a very different kind of King.

  9. Beloved says:

Being a different kind of King I thought of Ephesians 4:15, speaking the truth in love He always spoke truth to not only teach but to build up the body, His church. Love builds!

  10. street says:

    If Jesus “was” a king?

i hear He went away to receive a Kingdom.

your right, He was not like any king we ever saw or heard of.

a King so loved and delighted in, God Exalted Him to His Right Hand. The King in Who’s Person the Spirit of God fills without measure. a perfect and complete physical manifestation of the invisible God. that self same Spirit hidden in jars of clay.

thinking of the incomprehensible goodness, blamelessness of God/Law that would receive the penalty of sinners in order to redeem them and complete the work He began in an Eternal Holy Love that is so foreign to mankind. no end to the increase of His rule and peace.

  11. street says:

i like the picture, the King in the Temple of God, waiting and working. Priest Prophet and King. The Governing will rest of His Shoulders. His yoke is indeed light and easy.

  12. Beloved says:

Just thinking… I wonder how many more decades centuries etc until His work is complete! So glad to be part of it. I’m always looking for the lost sheep to show them the way in!

  13. jeff1 says:

    I Am Your Salvation

    I am your salvation.
    I am Christ your Lord,
    Crucified and buried,
    Now alive forevermore;
    Crushed for your forgiveness,
    Broken for your sin,
    Risen for your endless joy
    And mighty now within.

    I am your salvation.
    Rest in me today.
Don’t you know I’m with you
And I listen as you pray?
    Fear and grief may gather.
    Doubt will do its best.
Stand and simply trust in Me,
And I will do the rest.

    Alpha and Omega,
    Ever on the throne –
All you see will fade and die,
    And I will reign alone.
    I am your salvation.
    I am your reward.
Boldly lose your life in Me
And prove that I am Lord.

  14. Beloved says:

The lion in the pic looks weary to me laying in a cold dungeon. On the other side… Our great King was freed from the pain and suffering only by submitting to it. “Who for the Joy set before Him…” I see myself in the lion some days, until I remember…

  15. jeff1 says:

    Fight The Good Fight

    Fight the good fight with all thy might;
    Christ is thy Strength, and Christ thy Right;
Lay hold on life, and it shall be
    Thy joy and crown eternally.

Run the straight race through God’s good grace,
    Lift up thine eyes, and seek His face;
Life with its way before us lies,
Christ is the Path, and Christ the Prize.

Cast care aside, upon thy Guide,
    Lean, and His mercy will provide;
Lean, and the trusting soul shall prove
Christ is its Life, and Christ its Love.

Faint not nor fear, His arms are near,
He changeth not, and thou art dear.
Only believe, and thou shalt see
That Christ is all in all to thee.

  16. SFDBWV says:

Well it seems “The Politics of Jesus” has hit a brick wall. Unless we talk about politics or the politics of how politicians wanted to use Jesus then and now.

For me to imagine how Jesus will reign as a King becomes as personal as anyone’s view of a perfect government.

The Jews wanted a champion to oust the Roman’s and place Israel as the ruling nation of the world with their God given law the rule over man.

Politicians here in the USA today use the name of Jesus and give Christians the impression that they will champion their political causes so as to get their vote.

It is interesting to try and imagine just how things will be when Christ Jesus sets on His throne in Jerusalem to rule over the nations.

Similarly to when Moses used his judges to help him govern, I suppose it will be something like that with we His chosen people in place to help.

Then there is heaven and eternity, will any of us need governed at all?

Bad economic news in my area as a 135 year old paper mill is closing and the loss of some 500 jobs.

    53 degrees and foggy.

    Steve

  17. SFDBWV says:

Reading further it is a layoff of over 700 employees.

When the mining company I once worked for shut down and moved out there was a workforce of about 1200 men furloughed at that time.

There are about 10 or more log trucks that go past my house daily taking pulp wood to the mill. The loss of the mill will have more than the 700 people affected.

But not to worry Trump is going to make America great again.

    Steve

  18. poohpity says:

Paul explains the difference in those who believe the gospel and those who don’t.

Col 3: If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

  19. poohpity says:

Steve, The paper mill shutting down had nothing to do with President Trump, the owner of the mill said, “in response to the continuing decline in customer demand for the grades of coated freesheet paper produced at the mill, along with rising input costs, a significant influx of imports, and rising compliance costs.” Recent environmental regulatory changes also played a role, the company said.” Maybe if they brought it into the needs of 21st century living it would still be needed.

That is 700 jobs split between three states when nation wide there are over 7 million jobs available due to the job growth of this administration. Just four years ago there were 1000 people applying for one job, now they do not have enough people to fill the job’s available.

  20. jeff1 says:

I got caught up in the murky world of politics and so I am reluctant to trust Politicians no matter what promises they make.

I have learned that power thirsty men/women are very good at making promises as it seems to go with the territory.

My thinking is that if your feet aren’t muddy before you go into politics then they certainly will be by the time you come out.

Yes, many think they can use Jesus to their own gain.

My Rector spoke of a member of Sinn Fein (a left-wing Irish republican political party) who spoke of Jesus being a revolutionary and I can only guess that is because he sees himself as a revolutionary and while Jesus was a revolutionary of His day he (Sinn Fein member) overlooked that Jesus methods and reasons were very different to his parties.

I think we can rest assured that God will not allow Jesus to be used in any underhand manner and so I think those contemplating it should think again.

So many people out of work Steve and very sad indeed.

  21. poohpity says:

One can not blame the current President for the breakdown in the hearts and minds of people. He is one who in fact is pointing people to God rather than depending on the government to run/ruin lives. The hate and division that has gotten worse in our country is due to politics and need I even mention sin by the absence of God in people’s lives.

  22. street says:

    The Rule of Christ

    the politics of temptation.

a Kingdom that is lived out in it’s citizenry by a Spirit foreign to the world.

steal kill destroy vs The Way The Truth The Life.

    to take vs to receive,

to condemn vs to take up the cross and follow,

    to destroy vs live.

the difference between the two is so radical, not to be missed. the difference between spirits.

to steal is not the way, to kill is not the truth, to destroy is not life. The Father gave, Jesus surrendered, the Spirit gives life.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

    Steve

Don’t get me started on Canadian politics. I believe your country and mine have elected two very very embarrassing individuals to lead the way. I see yours as a pompous egotistical mouthpiece that pukes out whatever comes to mind and mine as a childish part time drama teacher that needs a full time babysitter every waking moment of the day. He shouldn’t be allowed to leave the fenced-in backyard without adult supervision. Both are money-spoiled brats. God help us all.

I keep readying myself for the inevitable….Nowhere in Scripture is there any reference to what remotely points to North America/our area of the world, during Revelation. That tells me that our countries are to become voiceless, insignificant dots on the map – certainly not great again. I see Canada succumbing way faster than the US though just because of our fearless warrior in power….cough cough. If we are now living in the end of times, as I believe we are, then I believe the timetable is now for our countries to begin their slide to the back burner of obscurity on the world stage. Hang on. This is about to become a 10 coupon ride for us. The UN is gathering steam and Russia and China are beginning to bud.

I look forward to our King ruling His kingdom.

The picture reminds me of C.S. Lewis’ Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia

  25. Beloved says:

Where the politics of man leads us.

    M. Henry commentary on Jeremiah 12:7-13

God’s people had been the dearly-beloved of his soul, precious in his sight, but they acted so, that he gave them up to their enemies. Many professing churches become like speckled birds, presenting a mixture of religion and the world, with its vain fashions, pursuits, and pollutions. God’s people are as men wondered at, as a speckled bird; but this people had by their own folly made themselves so; and the beasts and birds are called to prey upon them. The whole land would be made desolate. But until the judgments were actually inflicted, none of the people would lay the warning to heart. When God’s hand is lifted up, and men will not see, they shall be made to feel. Silver and gold shall not profit in the day of the Lord’s anger. And the efforts of sinners to escape misery, without repentance and works answerable thereto, will end in confusion.

  26. poohpity says:

As we read in the politics of Jesus slander, malice, rumors or gossip has no place for those who are lead by their leader Jesus. That is what a life ruled by earthly thinking, reasoning and religion does to a person but that is not how Jesus intended for us to be living within His Kingdom while here on earth. 1 John 4:5; John 17:16

  27. Beloved says:

    Our Father in heaven,
    Hallowed(holy) be Your name.
    Your kingdom come,
    Your will be done
    On earth, as it is
    In heaven.
    Give us this day
    Our Daily bread,
    Forgive us our debts
    As we forgive our debtors.
    Lead us not
    Into temptation but
    Deliver us from evil
    For Thine is the
    Kingdom
    Power
    Glory
    Forever and ever
    Amen

how politics continues to rear it’s ugly head.

when two parties come together and decide how things are to be done for the mutual benefit of all. after they agree, politics enter into the agreement. you say hows that? they argue over what they agreed too.

in a covenant relationship with God, if you look close you will notice God upholds both sides of the agreement in Christ. TRUE GLORY! we have nothing to boast in, but Christ.

  30. phpatato says:

Well Pooh I guess I am ruled by earthly thinking. At least I am not living in denial; I am not afraid to call it as I see it.

and as sung in a song by Amanda Marshall….”everybody’s got an opinion on how things should be”. That includes you and me.

I’m at least trying to be honest with mine. Like it or not.

And the first thing you should know about me is….. I am not you. A lot more will make sense after that.

Thanks for posting what is your opinion on what I said. If we were all as perfect as you maybe a lot more would make sense after that.

    Politics on a blog

Pat I just got home and you have confirmed what I was thinking that how much more peaceful I feel not reading poohpity posts any more. I just recognized that she had me convinced that I was such a horrible person I didn’t even belong in church or bible study anymore!! You see, she played into the evil brain washing I grew up with, and heard from my husband. I wondered a while back how I ended up on the same blog… But evil will dog us all the days of our lives. No matter what you say to her she will have a snappy comeback or a false humility. It’s all a game. Blessed to be a sinner saved by grace. Bless you also Pat and have a great evening!
    xo Joyce

  32. poohpity says:

That is not my opinion it is what Paul said in Col 3 and many other places in scripture. I know no one really cares about what we are taught in the bible but just thought I would share since the topic is about the difference in those who claim Jesus as their leader when Mart shared, “If Jesus is the real leader of the free world, a hint of his presence, politics, and accomplishments are seen in the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of his citizens.”

just as a spoon full of sugar helps the deceit go down.

yet bless are the poor in Spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

A King seen in his citizens

  34. Beloved says:

to praise Him for the work He has done,
    does drive out darkness.

Yes it does. I’ve been having terrible dreams/PTSD lately and it occurred to me to think about how much worse my life could have turned out and to turn the bad things over to Jesus. Who IS my life. Things got much brighter! Praise God for His ever- present help in times of trouble. And for discernment.

  35. Beloved says:

I’m always thankful for every thing God has given and done for me. So much, it’s amazing!

  36. Beloved says:

My apologies to Steve for my self absorbed comments. I’m the only one I have any control over. Not trying to make light of you at all. It’s just how I am.

  37. poohpity says:

Joyce, you asked me not to talk to you so would it then figure that maybe you should not talk about me. I know you guys are so caught up in group think and the inability to think about anything else then your disdain of me that you fail so miserably to look at, again, the very things you accuse me of are what you are guilty of yourselves.

What I have learned is that rather than slander those who are places of authority we should pray for them. I can not even imagine ALL the different things that a President or PM are responsible for. They are the pilots of the planes with their countries people in those planes, so to shoot the pilot is like destroying the person flying the plane. It is a very very big job running a country and they need wisdom in so many ways so rather than slandering them or calling them names like children do check out the facts.

Then the next time you vote, be an informed voter rather than an emotional one. Ask God for wisdom and stop throwing tantrums when they do not run their countries they way you think they should last time I looked most can not even run their own homes or even help their own neighbors much less a country, in our case, filled with 360 million people as well as helping people around the world.

  38. poohpity says:

Do you know the meaning of the euphemism “Arm chair quarterback”?

  39. street says:

    Arm chair quarterback

on a side note Bill Belichick
William Stephen Belichick is an American football coach who is the head coach of the New England Patriots of the National Football League. Belichick has extensive authority over the Patriots’ football operations, effectively making him the general manager of the team as well. He holds many coaching records, including winning a record five Super Bowls as a head coach.

i don’t think we are trying to play football here.

makes you wonder what we are trying to get done here?

  40. bubbles says:

Mart, Thank you for your thoughts. Always look forward to what you will write next. Each word you wrote is true and convicting. Thank you.

There are times when preparing for the day, thoughts began running rampant and I stop and think these are NOT fruits of the Spirit and I have to confess them to God.

Whatsoever things are true, just, good report, and so on in Philippians encourages our thoughts to please God because what is in our heart, so are we and will come out in our speech.

Please know this is not about anyone here, these are thoughts I have in my own mind and how I have to confess these things to God. Thank you.

    Happy May Day.

    The politics of Jesus

I was just reading how the Law points to Christ.

  42. jeff1 says:

Bubbles that was a lovely address to Mart and I believe you are right it is when I don’t take the time to confess to God my wayward thoughts that I fail to speak as I should.

Also it is not about anyone else but my need of God to strengthen me to think and do what is right rather than telling others what they should think or do.

It seems to me that you are taking your relationship with God seriously and rather than talking the talk you are walking the walk.

Thank you, you have enspired me today.

  43. SFDBWV says:

    “The Lion of Judah”.

    “King of the jungle”.

Somehow the idea of African Lions roaming around Israel seems out of place.

When I look at the face of the lion pictured I see a creature that looks as if to say “I am the master of my domain, not afraid of anything and don’t take crap from anyone.”

It is that “regal” look that perhaps help gave him the title of “king of the jungle”.

However if you do a little study of the big cat, his females do most of the hunting and killing in a pack and he intimidate his way in to feast.

Whereas he is a fierce and powerful animal a water buffalo can maim or kill him.

Even an adult giraffe can kick him enough times to make him back away.

Of course smaller, younger and sick animals are an easy prey and so the big cat easily stalks them and overpowers their attempts to evade death.

Which I suppose is why it is written that the devil is like a roaring lion walking about seeing whom he may destroy. 1 Peter 5:8 KJV

In the movie “Robin Hood Prince of Thieves” when Robin asks his Moor friend what his name means the answer was “great one”, laughing, Robin asks “did you give yourself this name?”

When I look at how the symbol of the majestic male lion is used by many kingdoms around the world as their adopted symbol, smiling I wonder did they give themselves this “name”.

However when I think of the “Lion of Judah” the majestic undaunted ruler of all he surveys being what the Jew expected in their Messiah. But what they got was a truly majestic servant of His people. A ruler who presented a new law as demonstrated in the fruits of His Spirit.

So He was rejected in favor for the “King of the Jungle” where the law of the jungle prevailed. Where the strong survive and the weak die out.

Not seeing that the “Lion of Judah” offered the meek to inherit the earth while the strong killed themselves out by their own politics of death instead of His, life.

Pat I too think we are at the dawn of the end of the age. And while I am talking about big powerful animals I am reminded of the quote from Caesar “Every wolf must suffer his fleas”, I say this to you and any who are pestered by any parasitic insect that may feed off of our comments, no need to scratch too hard, just use a flea collar (armor).

    Blessing to all.

51 degrees with Lilacs in full bloom and their aroma filling the air, and the songs of Robins welcoming the dawn.

    Steve

  44. phpatato says:

Joyce…thanks for the reminder. I try so very hard to practice what I preach but there are times when…… Thank you for “grounding” me again.

Steve, I think my “collar” has lost its ability to protect. I will be sure to snap a new one on as well as wear my darkened sunglasses next time I venture out. Lilacs here are only in bud form yet as are the tree leaves. Flooding is bad bad bad around here. Municipal governments have declared states of emergency up and down the Ottawa River watershed, which has enabled them to access help from the federal Armed Forces. They are helping with filling sandbags. Many have lost their homes to flood waters. Winter snow melt/spring flooding has always been a possibility – even as far back as 100 years ago – but the reason it is so catastrophic now is because over the years, people have snapped up properties at water’s edge so as to enjoy that “million dollar view” or easy river access. Flood waters are expected to peak today or tomorrow but depending on what happens upstream, if there’s significant rain or significant snow melt, the peak can be sustained or there can be a second peak. It is a sad situation. Prayers for everyone affected by this.

    Pat xo

  45. jeff1 says:

If Jesus is the real leader of the free world, a hint of his presence, politics, and accomplishments are seen in the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of his citizens.

In a diverse world like this one perhaps that is all I can expect to find is a hint of Him.

As the world seems to move away from God it is difficult to see how Jesus will lead.

It seems to me that Jesus would have just as many enemies today as He had when He did inhabit the earth and perhaps that is why God works incognito.

Birds of a feather flock together as they say and that is all very well in the free world but much more dangerous where it is not.

  46. poohpity says:

Real power does not need to prove strength by putting others down or oppressing thought and truth. The weaker a person is the more they tend to put others down so they can feel better about themselves.

  47. poohpity says:

oops that should have been the weaker in character a person is the more they tend to put others down so they can feel better about themselves. Those who know who they are in Christ are more patient and bear with one another realizing that there are none without fault.

  48. poohpity says:

In “The Politics of Jesus” Col 3: Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

  49. SFDBWV says:

Pat I am saddened to hear of flooding in your area, are you and your family safe?

The news here is mostly concerned with Trump, with weather news about the flooding in Iowa and the Midwest. I hadn’t seen anything about flooding in Canada.

Back in the late 90’s there was catastrophic flooding all along the Mississippi River Army Corps of Engineer’s levee system. The river overflowing the levees everywhere.

As is often the case we never get the full story, but somehow sooner or later it comes to light.

It turns out that back during the “Great Depression” when massive public works programs were put into action in order to get the Mississippi River levee system built the Army Corps of Engineers’ engineers lied to Congress about the amount of river flow in the Mississippi.

It is stated they had to lie because if they told the truth Congress would never had given approval to fund such a massive undertaking. But by lying the funding being less the engineers thought something was better than nothing so the lie went forward and the project built.

Gee who would have thought that something built on a lie would fail?

I join others here with prayers for you and your neighbors during this flood emergency.

  51. SFDBWV says:

Street I wanted to express my thoughts concerning your thoughts about what we are trying to get done here.

Been Thinking About is just that, what’s on your mind?

Mart’s subjects are a base from which we can share what we may think about along the lines of his subject. Contrary to what some may insist, what we think comes from our thoughts and views, not the thoughts and views of another, nor is there an accurate view, only yours, mine and everyone else’s view.

What we might get done is learn what others think and along the way perhaps meet new people and make new friends.

We are not about the activity of evangelizing people here, as most people here already have confessed to being Christian.

So we share our thoughts, encourage each other and when necessary pray for each other.

Simply put, we come together as Christian’s to fellowship with each other around our thoughts, and in my view when two or more come together in His name He is also there.

He should be the team leader as expressed in His fruit.

Well, these is my thoughts concerning you question, I hope I was helpful if not informative.

    Steve

  52. poohpity says:

Actually this is what Mart started the blog for; “Mart shares his thoughts on the issues of the day—from current events to the relevancy of Scripture to the challenge of responding to an ever-changing culture. The point is, well, to get you thinking about the world in a fresh and Biblical way. Stop by and take part in the discussion.”

However sadly some have lead the way against that very purpose to make the blog what they thought it should to be.

Real power does not need to prove strength by putting others down or oppressing thought and truth.

There is a political party in Northern Ireland who used violence, intimidation and threats to get power and they succeeded because of weak Government who give into their demands irrespective of the opposition from the people.

Now we have no Government because no other party can work with them as if it does not meet with their demands then they make threats as that is all they know since that was their way of doing things from the beginning and they haven’t changed.

Politics here is a joke as the Politicians are still getting salaries and they haven’t governed in over 2 years.

The irony is that because the opposing parties couldn’t agree on anything anyway it turns out we don’t notice much of a difference without them.

  54. poohpity says:

As is seen by Steve’s thoughts about what the purpose of the blog is about according to him.

  55. poohpity says:

Viv, that seems to be how most worldly governments act. Oppression of the very people they say they serve that was the very reason that God gave them about wanting a King rather than God to guide them.

1 Sam 8: 4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”

6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”

10 Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

    Back to You

Need has called us back to You,
Back to what is always true.
All we have is only due
To Your goodness and Your mercy.

Need has crushed our hearts again,
    Pain we cannot comprehend.
    All our proud delusions end,
    Loving Father, in Your mercy!

Blind with grief, we ask You why
Till we see You lifted high,
    Groaning, giving as You die.
We are silent. Christ, have mercy!

Need has blessed us once again,
    Love we cannot comprehend.
    Savior, Sovereign, Father, Friend,
We are resting in Your mercy.

And My people love to have it so.
But what will you do in the end?

    Genesis 2:18
And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

    Genesis 32:24
Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Steve, all is well where I am. This year’s melt where I live wasn’t as bad as previous years. The thaw/melt was slowed because of cool night temperatures. I live about 45 mins to the south and to the west of the Ottawa River. I also live about 40 mins to the north from the St. Lawrence River.

    Thank you for your concern.

If I may ask for your prayers on another matter….my son just phoned me. Details are lacking right now but his good friend’s brother was killed this afternoon. My son was on his way over to the friend’s house when he called me. Prayers for God’s loving comfort and peace as this friend and his family struggle with their disbelief and grief.

jeff, Thank you. I feel I fail very many times and I need to do better always. Thankful to be able to talk with someone from a lovely place. I wish I could visit Ireland. I feel close to Ireland and England since my ancestors came over on the boat from there. Have a good evening.

  64. jeff1 says:

Bubbles, I think God uses my failings so that I don’t become unbearably full of my own importance and that applies to me because I know myself and not speaking of anyone else.

My weakness is to think I am right and it was my dad who taught me that it is God who is always right.

Failings are good in my opinion because its what keeps me grounded in Christ.

I am learning to see that life is a journey of sorrows and joys and it is sharing them that makes us better human beings and that is what God intends for us to be better than this world affords.

I get distracted by the world as my attention span is poor due to mental illness but I know God has my/our interests and He knows best how to bring us home.

Yes, this is a lovely country and though I live in the North I have visited the South and it is particularly beautiful.

Myself I am Ulster/Scots on my dad’s side and unsure on my mum’s but she had Spanish ancestry I am told by my dad.

I visited Florida when the children were small and took them to Disney and Universal Studios and found them to be magical and the people were so friendly and the county Sheriff came to my hotel room door and made me close it so that we would keep safe.

Precious memories are what keeps me going when I struggle as they remind me that God is good all of the time.

  65. SFDBWV says:

You and your son and the family of the young man killed is certainly in my prayers this morning Pat. I am relieved to read the flooding has not affected you.

And so it goes; along with the politics of Jesus our King comes the policies of our King. As aptly defined by Mart His nature is described in the fruits of His Spirit. So we are expecting something of our lives to be on the winning side with joy and that zest for life.

Yet that nagging question of “why” keeps coming up.

We recently spoke of how personal our relationship with God is and how sometimes revelation and even epiphanies are given to us solely for our own growth, comfort and spiritual health.

Whereby sharing our personal experience may not be received well by others, at the same time others may be encouraged, enlightened and comforted as well.

Such is the case where I dreamt of being in this all white environment seeing people around and one whom I took to be Jesus approached me and we soon began talking. I ask question after question as to why, why, why and for every why question, Jesus gave a perfectly clear and understandable answer. Every why answer made perfect sense.

However when excitedly when I turned to tell Matt why, I couldn’t remember the answers and awoke. Suddenly knowing the answers were not important anymore, just knowing that with Jesus they all made sense. Perfectly and my spirit was calmed, healed and comforted.

The experience was for me and as it turned out for others to hear as well. The Holy Spirit made sure of that.

So I pray your son and his friend’s family are able to find comfort and peace when it just doesn’t seem possible to.

    Steve

  66. phpatato says:

    Good morning Steve

    Thank you.

I recall you telling this dream you had. Thank you for retelling it. Knowing the answers to our whys is really not so important. What is important is that we stop the insanity of running around in hot pursuit, trying to fill that need of having to find all the answers to our whys. Instead, what we simply need to do and to know, to really really know, is that His love for each one of us is so deep and so complete that there is a peace that passes all understanding – once we lean on, rest in and depend upon Him. He will never steer our boats the wrong way; He will guide and direct and chart our course to exactly the place we need to be. And He will never leave us, nor will He forsake us whether it’s through calm waters or in billowing seas . Simple trust; complete faith. Casting all our cares upon Him for He cares for us.

Details are now that “killed” should have instead been “passed away”. “DJ’s” son found him on the floor unresponsive. He turned 50 this past January and to add further sorrow, yesterday was his wife’s 50th birthday.

Christ the Wisdom and Power of God I Cor 1
18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”
20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

    It’s because I am trustworthy
He gives me strength far more than my share

Known only to him are the great hidden secrets

For me to imagine how Jesus will reign as a King becomes as personal as anyone’s view of a perfect government.

imagining a new rule with a new Spirit, a Spirit of Christ. i am reminded of worshipers who worship in Spirit and Truth, the Ones the Father is looking for, the Son Saves and the Spirit transforms. never to be alone again. it will be interesting seeing Oneness in the human population. to be seem by faith, hoped for by Spirit, achieved by love.

  75. Beloved says:

    imagining a new rule

A couple years ago I and a friend were puzzling over how the “ church” today seems to be no different from the 1-2nd century. Same troubles, disunity infightings rivalries etc. We both felt so discouraged. Just thinking today that the ‘new rule’ mentioned doesn’t take much imagination at all really if one continues on in Spirit and Truth given by Christ to guide our pilgrimage on earth. The fullness of Jesus dwells in all who trust Him. Do we have everything we need to navigate today and tomorrow? AMEN! It truly will be interesting to see the unity created by the Spirit in the human population. Tares and wheat together until then. All under the King, like it or not. Tehe

    The lion pic…
It’s interesting, like a Rorschach test, how we all see something different when we think of Jesus as the lion. I think it shows how no one really understands God at all, but then He says His thoughts and ways are beyond knowing. I asked Jesus this morning can I be sure I belong to Him. His answer, “Believe”. Having faith is all we need to DO. Even though sometimes I still don’t feel good enough. But I am and so are we all.

How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
    Precious sacred scenes unfold

    Precious father, loving mother
    Fly across the lonely years
And old home scenes of my childhood
    In fond memory appear

    CHORUS:
    Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
    Precious sacred scenes unfold

As I travel on life’s pathway
Know not what the years may hold
And as I ponder hope grows fonder
    Precious memories flood my soul

  79. poohpity says:

I often wonder if people spend so much time paying attention if others are following Jesus and His politics that they forget to do it themselves.

It seems similar to cleaning out one’s closet to make room for a new wardrobe. Getting rid of the old clothes that have holes or rips, are all stretched out, some are faded or do not fit any longer but people want to keep them even though they have access to this whole new wardrobe of clothes. The closest is over full and one can not stuff anything else in it but they just keep hanging on to the old stuff, so it is the new things that end up being thrown out or get lost among all the old.

  80. poohpity says:

Eph 4: Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. 26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. 29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

  81. poohpity says:

    The Politics of Jesus;

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.

    5
There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
    6
one God and Father of all,
who is over all, in all, and living through all.

7 However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ. 8 That is why the Scriptures say,

“When he ascended to the heights,
he led a crowd of captives
and gave gifts to his people.”

9 Notice that it says “he ascended.” This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world. 10 And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself.

11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.

20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ.

    My Jesus
    Todd Agnew

    Which Jesus do you follow?
    Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sand

‘Cause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?

Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side or fall down and worship at His holy feet

Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we’d recognize Him

‘Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?

‘Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet would stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despised the proud
I think He’d prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud

I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I’m tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I’m not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
‘Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like my Jesus

All the fullness of Your giving
    In this giving of Yourself.

All our sin and all its bondage,
All the fear and curse of death
Now are conquered in Christ Jesus.
Now we share His holy breath.
    Daily walking in His Spirit,
Step by step in love’s pure light,
We are heirs with Christ our brother,
    Breathing here His risen life.

In Christ Jesus what can harm us,
What divide us from Your love?
    Any suffering? Any power
    Deep below or high above?
    Nothing present, nothing future –
You secure us by Your Word.
    Father, none can separate us
From Your love in Christ our Lord!

If Jesus was a king, his face doesn’t need to be seen for his influence to be understood. His voice doesn’t need to be heard for his will to be done.

this is i really interesting thought to understand. my sheep hear my voice and they follow me, hey will not follow another. a face never seen, but seen by faith. the pure in heart shall see God. a will that is done by a love that has been changed from a love for creation to a love for God. we all love. the question is what do we love and how do we do it. it’s like what are we trying to accomplish? thinking it would be wise to pay attention to the One we love. first priority, what is it that we love? i have to admit there are many options, but only One fulfillment. Jesus found fulfillment, even in a cross. paul said he knew nothing but Christ and Him crucified. he also knew Him risen. paul was not in denial after the damascus road. was paul super human? i think not. paul endued many hard and difficult things, not on his own but by the strength and wisdom God supplied. when paul said he was crucified with Christ, i think he was saying he no longer depended on himself/strength. was it paul doing? yes in concert with God. a music rarely hear in a sea of noise. a melody played out in love for God.

But to hear what You would say

    Word of God speak
Would you pour down like rain
    Washing my eyes to see
    Your majesty
    To be still and know
    That you’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest
    In your holiness
    Word of God speak

I’m finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice

I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s okay.

    BELIEVE

These words worked powerful for me. It is Jesus we follow, He is the King, He really is, no one higher, no one stronger.

Thanks for your concern Beloved, I have been preoccupied, hopefully in the Name of Jesus -believe-
When I have more time I can writer more.
    God bless!
And Patt, I pray for your sons friends situation!

    Lead Me To The Rock

    When my heart is overwhelmed
And my eyes are blind to You
And the pain of life is just too heavy to bear

And then the mountains seems so high
And my faith’s too weak to climb
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

Lead me to the rock, lead me to the rock
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I
Lead me to the rock, lead me to the rock
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

When my life is hit with fear
And I fight to hide the tears
And I wrestle in my heart to know what to do

    Lord, I’m welling up inside
But I know You hear my cry
Jesus, lead me to the rock that is higher than I

Lead me to the rock, lead me to the rock
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I
Lead me to the rock, lead me to the rock
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

You are the rock and there is no other
A tower of strength, You are my shelter
Lord, You are my hope eternal
You are the rock that is higher than I

You are the rock and there is no other, oh

    and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
    8
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
    9
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
    11
    so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

    shall break forth into singing,
and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
    13

    instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle;
and it shall make a name for the Lord,
an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

  94. jeff1 says:

    To God Be the Glory

1 To God be the glory, great things he has done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life-gate that we may go in.

    Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
    let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thro’ Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he has done!

2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
    To ev’ry believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus forgiveness receives. [Refrain]

3 Great things he has taught us, great things he has done,
    and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
but purer and higher and greater will be
our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. [Refrain]

    Psalm 32

    Oh, what joy for those
    whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight!
    2
    Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
    3
When I refused to confess my sin,
    my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.
    4
Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude (Stop and think about this)

    5
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude (stop and think about this)

    6
Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
    7
    For you are my hiding place;
    you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude (stop and think about this)

    8
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
    9
Do not be like a senseless horse or mule
that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”

    10
Many sorrows come to the wicked,
but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.
    11
So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who obey him!
Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!

  96. jeff1 says:

On the bulletin blurb referring to the hymn ‘To God Be the Glory’ I found these comments.

This text is unique from Crosby’s other hymns because, rather than focus on our experience of God, the words are wholly about God and His perfect glory. In a sense, the hymn perfectly displaces us, removing us from the pedestal on which we so often place ourselves. This displacement is one of the great paradoxes of the Christian faith. It feels very natural for us to seek attention, approval, and our own glory. We like to be in control and present our own image to the world, an image we seek to improve through any means possible. On the other hand, there is great comfort in knowing that the image we try to make for ourselves doesn’t matter. We are made in the image of God, which means that whatever we do has to bring Him and Him alone glory. Our lives are wrapped up in God, and so too are the mistakes we make, the wounds we inflict, and all of our shortcomings. These are the things we try to avoid while we maintain control of our lives. But what a joy and a comfort to know that though these things may happen, because God is ultimately in control, and because our own image does not matter, God is still glorified. While we should still try to live a holy and upright life, we should do so to bring God glory, not ourselves. What a beautiful freedom that is.

  97. Beloved says:

Out of the strong, something sweet…

Samson failed in our eyes but God used Him mightily for His purposes in the end. Good to remember that our King Jesus will accomplish all He sets out to do whether we do little or much. Just practice the presence of our King from morning till evening. How He uses what I do is up to Him. Good to hear from you Forever! I’m reminded how Matt’s prayers are precious to God. Powerful even. We all minister from a base of affliction. Out of the eater something to eat!

  98. Beloved says:

Thank you Viv that is beautiful!

  99. jeff1 says:

Yes, Beloved, it reassured me when I read it as I can feel so weary of my failings.

It is good to know that God can turn our failures around for His purposes.

There is great freedom in that as the author of the passage said.

  100. poohpity says:

Viv, it is a great move forward to point people to God. He is the very source of all that is in Truth, Justice, righteousness, compassion and mercy.

  101. Beloved says:

Viv you and I were writing posting about the same time! Love how the Spirit of God works through people thousands of miles apart! Same Spirit, One LORD.

  102. jeff1 says:

As a believer you don’t have to convince me but I am surrounded my non believers who would argue there is no God and try as I may I have not convinced them.

My son did say that he credited me with trying to be a better person and at the very least I was sincere in my attempt to be a Christian.

My son was taught in the faith and as fallen away but I spoke to a friend of his who says that he believes my son does still believe in God but his experiences in Afghanistan has lessened his faith.

He spoke to me of how the people there had absolutely nothing and so from his perspective I can see why he wouldn’t see God as the source and why we in the free world have little understanding of the world at large.

  103. poohpity says:

    “Do Something”

    I woke up this morning
Saw a world full of trouble now
I thought, “How’d we ever get so far down?”
And “How’s it ever gonna turn around?”
So, I turned my eyes to Heaven,
I thought, “God, why don’t You do something?”

Well, I just couldn’t bear the thought of
    People living in poverty,
    Children sold into slavery.
    The thought disgusted me.
So, I shook my fist at Heaven,
I said, “God, why don’t You do something?”
He said, “I did.” Yeah. “I created you.”

    Now listen.

    If not us, then who?
    If not me and you?
    Right now.
Well, it’s time for us to do something.
    If not now, then when?
    Will we see an end
    To all this pain?
It’s not enough to do nothing.
It’s time for us to do something.

    I’m so tired of talking
About how we are God’s hands and feet.
But it’s easier to say than to be.
    Live like angels of apathy
    Who tell ourselves,
“It’s alright: somebody else will do something.”

Well, I don’t know about you,
    But I’m sick and tired
    Of life with no desire.
    I don’t want a flame, I want a fire.
I wanna be the one who stands up and says,
    “I’m gonna do something.”

    If not us, then who?
    If not me and you?
    Right now.
It’s time for us to do something.
    Yes, it is. Come on.
    If not now, then when?
    Will we see an end
    To all this pain?
Well, it’s not enough to do nothing.
It’s time for us to do something.

We are the salt of the earth.
We are a city on a hill
    Shine, shine, shine, shine.
We’re never gonna change the world
    By standing still.
    No, we won’t stand still.
    No, we won’t stand still.
No, we won’t stand still. No!

    If not us, then who?
    If not me and you?
    Right now.
It’s time for us to do something.
    If not now, then when?
    Will we see an end
    To all this pain?
It’s not enough to do nothing.
It’s time for us to do something.
It’s time for us to do something.
It’s time for us to do something.

  106. jeff1 says:

Yes, Beloved, it is amazing how God works and shows that it is in seeking I find.

  108. jeff1 says:

unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.

  110. Beloved says:

Street i think you are a counselor. You are so good about getting to the crux of problems.
I was just reading Fearless, by Max Lucado and he really surprised me when he wrote that fear comes when we don’t feel that we matter anymore. Recalling “The Search For Significance” I read many years ago then thinking back to the garden and how that played into events started by Satan. You are so right that we are surrounded by unfailing love. Thinking I would be dead the first time I thought of suicide at age 18 if it were not for God’s intervening relentlessly through the years. I trusted Him always with my life and after life. I have a story to tell of Gods faithfulness. My purpose in life!

  111. poohpity says:

This is what Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. William “Jerry” Boykin said at a “Operation Heal Our Patriots” reunion. He started by saying God’s call to warriors.

“Here’s what a warrior is. It’s not the guy who is armed with an AR15 and 30-round magazines. The warrior is someone who says: “This is what I love. This is what I hold dear. This is my family. This is my country. This is my faith. And this is what threatens it. This is the enemy. You will not hurt what I hold dear. You will not hurt what I love, without coming through me.”

No greater love than to lay one’s life down for what and who he loves.

  112. street says:

we are not to lay down our lives and die, paul quit clearly says that we are to be “living” sacrifices, not dead ones. only made alive in Christ. given a new Spirit. yes the old self decreases/dies, Christ increases. to be conformed to the image of Christ not country, family, or the world.

  113. jeff1 says:

It’s very much a struggle within and I must look to Jesus for strength and enlightenment.

I am learning that Jesus is a very different kind of King and my old theories are just that as God’s ways are different to any worldly learning.

However, I agree with your your Lt. Gen. that warriors seek justice and are driven by a sense of serving others who they believe are less willing to take up arms in defence of what they love.

There is a righteousness in this way of thinking and a willingness to sacrifice for others that is honourable and good intended and we cannot deny our need of warriors in a world where evil exists.

My dad was a warrior of his day and yet turned peace maker because he seen the futility of war.

I think God needs His warriors as He needs His peace makers.

  114. poohpity says:

I look at warriors as peace makers too. There is an old saying talk softly but carry a big stick regarding our military because they often go into situations against those who only understand fighting fire with a bigger fire. Everyone has a calling and for some it is to serve in the military.

There is a story of a man who went into a place in Africa only to find that he had to build a fence around his mission and use a machine gun to protect the children, they called him the “Machine Gun Preacher”. If you have some time look up the story about Sam Childers.

  115. poohpity says:

    David a man after God’s own heart was a warrior and when Jesus comes back He comes as a warrior;

Rev 19: Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

  116. poohpity says:

street, sometimes laying down our lives does mean dying, literally, for others. Prov 3:5

  117. poohpity says:

street, you may do some research on how many Christians have died while standing for their faith they are called “martyrs”.

  118. poohpity says:

The Politics of Jesus; Romans 5: It is rare indeed for anyone to die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. or John 15:13 or 1 John 3:16 or Luke 12:4

  119. street says:

This is the name by which he will be called:
    The Lord Our Righteous Savior.

if i remember right they all die. i think they also all live for God, our Righteousness.

thinking about the yoke, easy and light. when sinning feels oppressive and hard, when obeying liberty! a joy and peace that surpasses the world’s understanding. a joy and peace that permits the exercise of love. christian have exercised love with a firearm or a sword, rarely seen in a cross.

  120. Beloved says:

a joy and peace that surpasses the world’s understanding.

I sometimes watch crime shows because they give me such satisfaction, however the brief satisfaction of a criminal caught is so unlike the peace and joy that comes from King Jesus. Such a waste of time but my flesh enjoys the small victories. What’s wrong with that, you say? I must die that Christ may live, have full use of my flesh for His righteous purposes. I have been born again by His Spirit. Justified by His grace. I don’t belong to myself, I’ve been bought with a great price. I must die daily.

  121. Beloved says:

A joy and peace that permits the exercise of love.

Sounds like something that would come from a different kind of King!

  122. street says:

I think God needs His warriors as He needs His peace makers.

God’s ways are indeed difficult to understand. for instance the suffering of the innocent? ,job, or even the prophets of old wondering, God you are going to punish you disobedient people with people who are more wicked than they??? if i remember right God told adam in the garden that One coming would bruise the head of the serpent. yet we see the Son of God with a bruised heel on the cross. if that is a bruised heel it doesn’t look good for the head.

paul spoke of light and momentary affliction when considering the eternal weight of glory. if we are to suffer let it be for Christ not for sin. a living sacrifice doesn’t sound pleasant in any sense. i think peter said

    Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

we are told in difficult circumstance we are to turn to Him for help. even depend on Him. our refuge and strength.

i did not see Christ as a solder in the worldly sense at His first coming, but we do see it in His return.

    34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’;

He came to separate us from darkness. sprinkled by the blood and given new life. grace

  125. Beloved says:

It is certainly hard to understand. Justice and mercy both describe Jesus. Like trying to understand trinity which no one can, really. Perhaps if we are true believers God does with us as He pleases, which is always just and merciful. I enjoy speaking with you, street. You have insight and knowledge, with humility. I’m thankful you returned to Jesus.

  126. Beloved says:

I just read Oswald Chambers. Good reminder that we are tried by fire, yet escaping. It verifies what you said about Jesus, street. Thanks. He’s hard to understand, but who can understand God while we are in the flesh? That must be where faith comes in. I once was approached by someone in the dark (my landlords wife) who had just gotten fired from her job and wanted my help. I told her to ask Jesus- (she professed to be a Christian). She said, I don’t know if He’s there. I said to believe and talk to Him. She said, “oh, like fake it till you make it?” ( I should have said, “Faith it you will make it”.). I said, He’s as real as you and I standing here and is with us now. Understanding takes faith and patience to wait for the revelation.

  127. Beloved says:

I’m reminded how Habakkuk struggled with being patient with God.

  130. foreverblessed says:

    Lovely song Jeff!
    Goud to think about
Justice is to be like God

Last week, on Tuesday in the big old Church of our town, , also a gothic church, but not as big as the Notre Dame, for the oecomenical prayer, the bible reading was Psalm 111 and Revelation 1:12-20

I was so impressed, especially Rev 1:12-18 and was thinking how big Jesus is, no one greater, no one sweeter, no one more powerful.
Oh, how good to meditate on our Lord, and when In camera home, Mart had changed the topic: Jesus the Lion!
Jesus has the keys of death and Hades.
That is good to know, really comforting knowledge.

Beloved, my friend is doing fine. Apparantly the sickness has come to a standstill, no new spots since half a year, and that without chemo) I take that as a miracle! Answered prayer.
Jesus is our Savior, by His stripes we are healed!
I pray for that woman, Beloved! With God all things are posible.

  131. Beloved says:

I liked the song also Viv, I think I heard it years ago. Rich in theology, comforting.

Forever that’s good news about your friend. Now the watching to see if it returns and when. She’ll really hold on to Jesus now!!! God always works in our afflictions, doesn’t He. That’s been my experience anyway.

  132. foreverblessed says:

Indeed, it is wonderful to walk beside her, she is showing so much faith and peaceful rest in Jesus, it is a great encouragement to me!

About the bible verses that impressed me last week in the church reading:

    Revelation 1:12-18
2 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man,[d] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

This time I read it like this: It is totally about Jesus, and it shows Who He is, just the King, The Lion, the Almighty One.

It was as if I was reading it anew.
    But wait a minute….
    He has to say something….

  133. foreverblessed says:

    Revelation 1:19-20

19 “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. 20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels[e] of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

    [e] or messengers

  134. foreverblessed says:

Now this week the reading was:
    Psalm 33 and Revelation 5:6-14

6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits[a] of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll
    and to open its seals,
    because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
    10
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign[b] on the earth.”

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”

13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
    for ever and ever!”

14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

a That is, the sevenfold Spirit
    b Some manuscripts: they reign

  135. foreverblessed says:

Steve said a about the lion, the work is done by the lionesses.

Here Jesus is portrayed amongst 7 golden lampstands,
and in chapter 5 it is written, that Jesus has a sevenfold Spirit,

I was thinking, is the sevenflod Spirit connected to the seven lampstand?

    Jesus and the seven,
    and the seven churches

Whatever Jesus is doing, we are highly connected with it.

And the messages to the seven churches, are messages that are worthwhile; God is working with humans, those who have reacted to the call of Jesus, and God is working on us,
    The Bride,
    making us holy,
    We are redeemed,
But sanctification is an onward going process.
Whatever Jesus is doing, we are with Him

    THe Lion and the lionesses

  136. poohpity says:

7 is usually depicted as completeness in scripture. Does knowing that help us grow closer in our relationship with God? Yes if we we learn that in Christ we are complete.

    Oh Lord, you’re beautiful,
Your face is all I see,
For when your eyes are on this child,
    Your grace abounds to me

    Oh Lord, you’re beautiful,
Your face is all I see,
For when your eyes are on this child
    Your grace abounds to me

I want to take your word and shine it all around
But first help me to just, live it Lord
And when I’m doing well, help me to never seek a crown
For my reward is giving glory to you

Oh Lord, please light the fire
That once burned bright and clean
Replace the lamp of my first love
    That burns with holy fear

I want to take your word and shine it all around
But first help me to just, live it Lord
And when I’m doing well, help me to never seek a crown
For my reward is giving glory to you

    Oh Lord, you’re beautiful
Your face is all I see
For when your eyes are on this child
    Your grace abounds to me

  137. foreverblessed says:

And what we are doing with Him, one thing is sure:
    Prayer is a big part.

    Revelation 5:8
8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.

    Prayer!
Before you do anything, prayer is needed,

A prayer of a believing man. Without faith nothing is accomplished.

Someone said to me this week:
God had talked to her saying:
“Without Prayer I cannot do anything.”

God is waiting for our prayers.
I said, can you give bible verses who confirm that?

The first thing she commented was:
    The Lords’s prayer!

  138. foreverblessed says:

–the golden bowls full of incense, which are the paryers of the saints–

    Have a deeper meaning.
Even in the endtime,or should I say:
especially in the endtime, we have a part in all the happenings

  139. Beloved says:

    Forever thinking of prayer…

    James 1:17
    Contemporary English Version
Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father who created all the lights in the heavens. He is always the same and never makes dark shadows by changing.

    James 4:2 Contemporary English Version
You want something you don’t have, and you will do anything to get it. You will even kill! But you still cannot get what you want, and you won’t get it by fighting and arguing. You should pray for it.

  140. Beloved says:

3Yet even when you do pray, your prayers are not answered, because you pray just for selfish reasons.

These verses in fact all of James4 tells me not only why to pray but how not to pray. Good to think about what I am praying for today.

  141. street says:

    23 “Am I only a God nearby,”
    declares the Lord,
“and not a God far away?
24 Who can hide in secret places
so that I cannot see them?”
    declares the Lord.
“Do not I fill heaven and earth?”
    declares the Lord.

  142. foreverblessed says:

    Yes, Beloved, that is true.
    Learning how to pray!

You said a few days ago, how important prayers were from people, like Matt, who are suffering.
    Sufferning and praying.
Two things that are a mystery to me!
(As are many other things Like the Trinity, the Cross…

Two nights ago, at night in bed, my hand was burning, from the stove, I thought I had cooled it, but not enough, I was laying in bed, and thinking about the people that got burned in Moskou, at a plane crash.
I remembered to russian woman on tv, describing the wounded, and how they were burned, in their lungs and their skin.
And fore some reason, I found myself praying for these people. (I do not want to promote myself as a saint, but as God teaching me, how to pray)
I hjad just read what Beloved wrote about prayer, and from where it came I do not know, but feeling the burning on my hand, it was easy to start praying for these people, while meaning it too!
(I did cool my hand too, though, no worry)

And I felt the assurance of God, that He liked it that I prayed.
It is this kind of prayer, praying for the suffering of those we hear about.

But I must admit, when I was suffering myself, I prayed a lot for myself. Which is OK, but as I see it, that we grow as a christian from one stage to another.

But this is what the Lord’s prayer is about:
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

God wants us to pray about that His will be done.
I was learning to pray, years ago, when praying about myself. God did not take away immediately what I prayed for, but changed me in the process.
So as long as we keep our eyes on Jesus, He will teach us hosw to pray…

There comes a point where I do not need to pray about myself, I will have grown so confident in Jesus, that He is taking care of me, that I can pray for others.

Like Abraham, in his quest with God, in the end, he prayed for the women of Abimelech so they could have children again. Genesis 20:17-18
I found this so stupifying: after years and years, and Abraham prays for someone else, about something that was a huge problem in his own life:
    having children!

And what happens: when Abraham prayes for another, the long awaited miracle happens:
His wife Sarah gets pregnant too!

    Some example for our praying.

  143. foreverblessed says:

Oh sorry for all the typos, my proofreading was not good enough.
When I post, the comment does not appear, neither what comes after me. I have to log out, and login on another device to see what happens.
    Anyway,
May we all have a blessed day.

But the point that I was thinking about, meditating about, is this:
    God awaits our prayers

God is making fellow workers with Him.
He will not come to earth without His wife having made ready.

    The Lion and the lionesses

  144. poohpity says:

Praying is simply talking with and listening to God. The whole bible is full of examples and experiences of prayer. How can anyone have a relationship with someone if they do not talk to them?

  145. Beloved says:

No hiding from God, street! Yes!

  146. Beloved says:

I’ve been thinking about the lionesses doing all the hard work for the lion. Pecking order comes to mind. I think that is why we are called to honor our elders in the faith. Being subject to husbands, husbands being subject to God—leaders need followers, Godly ones. I’m rambling.

Thinking also about streets verses more it’s best to submit to the God of all since He has ALL the power, and will use it after this age is over. Bringing prayer into it I think it’s awesome we have a God who hears us!

  147. street says:

thinking about the wilderness journey in the desert…how they had trouble following the Lord and keeping His Word. as difficult as that was, it was just as difficult in a fruitful and prosperous land of milk and honey. a fruit that did not last. yet we find His mercy is new every morning. His love unfailing. a living hope.

yes prayer is a road, a journey we are asked/commanded to take. like all journeys, an alpha and omega. oh israel pour out your heart and your Lord will sustain you.

  148. Beloved says:

it was just as difficult in a fruitful and prosperous land of milk and honey. a fruit that did not last. yet we find His mercy is new every morning. His love unfailing. a living hope

I just heard a teaching about how the miracles we ask for and receive right now are only temporary. He used Lazarus as an example talking about how he must have felt being in heavenly bliss then suddenly called back to stinking grave clothes and have to die all over again someday. Never thought about that before.

  149. Beloved says:

It does call into question some of the ways I pray, something I have been thinking about for a while now. Sorry so far off topic, but, as my thoughts go- so go I, lol.

  150. street says:

renewed daily…. life is so different from what we think and know. to God be the Glory! ascribe worth and value to Him! delight in Him and trust Him in the day and the night.

  151. foreverblessed says:

Praying- you can ask God to bless those you pray for, and then leave it up to God, how He will do that.

Oswald Chambers has a lot to say about intercessory prayer.

  152. Beloved says:

Thank you street and forever. To God be the glory!

  153. Beloved says:

I just received a book by Alistair Begg on prayer in going to dig into.

  154. Beloved says:

    I’m not in.

  155. jeff1 says:

Yesterday, I attended a funeral of a member of our church whose sister had died just over a year ago. They had lived together all their lives and the Rector spoke of how they attended church regularly, read their Bible every night at a certain time and were devoted to Jesus.

He said when he visited them they reminded him of Mary and Martha as one would sit and talk while the other was busy making him tea and cakes.

He never left the house empty handed as there would be shortbread or the likes sitting in a bag and given to him on his leaving.

I know the two ladies well and they did the same with all of their visitors and why he spoke of their generosity of spirit.

Agnes was so thoughtful that she had noticed at her sister’s funeral that some were having difficulty getting out of the seat they were in and had arranged with the church warden to have seats brought in so they would be more comfortable for the same people at her own funeral.

This is one of the hymns she choose for the service and it is a long time since I have heard it and had forgotten how beautiful the words.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,
    safe on His gentle breast,
there by His love o’er shaded,
    sweetly my soul shall rest.
    Hark!’tis the voice of angels
borne in a song to me,
    over the fields of glory,
    over the jasper sea.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,
    safe on His gentle breast,
there by His love o’er shaded,
    sweetly my soul shall rest.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,
    safe from corroding care,
    safe from the world’s temptations,
    sin cannot harm me there.
Free from the blight of sorrow,
    free from my doubts and fears;
    Only a few more trials,
    only a few more tears!

    Jesus, my heart’s dear refuge,
    Jesus has died for me;
firm on the Rock of Ages,
    ever my trust shall be.
Here let me wait with patience,
    wait till the night is o’er;
wait till I see the morning
    break on the golden shore.

  156. SFDBWV says:

That is a beautiful tribute to Agnes and her sister Viv. Thank you for sharing it.

It is such a pity that such people are disappearing from the world, though there are still a few, if we take the time to go and visit them.

    Steve

  157. jeff1 says:

The kind of discipline these sisters had is not easy to find these days. Not only where they generous to friends and neighbours but their donations to the church was well exceeding what you would expect two pensioners could afford because they would do with less themselves to give generously.

This is the kind of sacrifice I believe is pleasing to God as it shows a willingness to put others before oneself.

I have to admit I am more likely to consider the bills I have to pay and what’s left for my family though I am generous in giving to charities as best I can.

When I consider the generosity of these two dear ladies then I am put to shame by their efforts.

If we took the time to go and visit them we could learn a lot about humility I think.

Agnes was 87 and her sister was 90.

  158. poohpity says:

Viv, that was beautiful which is a fine example of the Politics of Jesus.

No matter how much one gives as long as it is done cheerfully seems to be what matters to the Lord. 2 Cor 9:7 NLT

  159. poohpity says:

Regular people may not even consider giving away money they hang on to it as if it is the answer to all their problems. But those who think about giving know that they even have the money because the Lord has blessed them with it and knowing the source seeming grateful to acknowledge from whom it came and He will provide for all our needs.

  160. poohpity says:

    Proverbs 11:25; 2 Cor 8:12

  161. poohpity says:

Several years back when I was in terrible financial need Steve and his family sent me a gift as well as another blogger gr8ganny, Charlotte. I was so touched and grateful by their generosity.

  162. poohpity says:

ooops that was gr8granny not ganny, lol. She has since went home to be with the Lord.

  163. SFDBWV says:

When you chance upon a “Christian” blog you expect to find Christians and in finding Charlotte (gr8granny) you certainly found one.

She was a beautiful human being, gracious and as good an example of a follower of Jesus as you will find.

Her father had moved her and her family from West Virginia to Colorado in the 50’s, he had been a coal miner, like me, and was out of work and looking for a new life for he and his family.

She, married and living at the time in Austin Texas still had a soft place in her heart for these mountains of West Virginia. So we became quick friends. After a few emails and phone calls between her, Matt, Glenna and I the friendship was cemented.

Dying of cancer she and her husband came back east one more time to visit family and friends, and one of the friends she made certain to visit was Matthew, Glenna and I.

Her eyes reflected her love and compassion, as well as her pain. She had lost a daughter to an automobile accident when the girl 30 years old and as expected Charlotte still grieved about it.

We talked many times on the phone and the day before Charlotte died she called and talked to all three of us. After she died another of her daughters called to tell us, as her mother had ask her to do.

I said before behind a name is a person, the people we speak to here by comments are real flesh and blood people. With joy, and pain, hopes and grief. I try and remember that each time I address someone here. Yes I too fail from time to time, but I try to think of the person and not just always the comment.

Charlotte was a beautiful human being and so are many others I have found here. For that I thank Mart for the opportunity to meet so many far and diverse friends. So thank you all for the friendship and the opportunity to stop for a while and visit with each and every one of you.

    Steve

  164. jeff1 says:

Yes, Steve, we are so much more alike than we are different and it is when we remember this that we behave more like Christians.

  165. foreverblessed says:

Just hopping in, I read this devotion, and it makes me so glad, I want to share it,

    The politics of Jesus:
Come to Me, all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest.
    Matthew 11:28

    May 8 God calling, Twolisteners

    The Rest of God

I lead you. The way is clear. Go forward unafraid. I am beside you. Listen, listen, listen to My Voice. My Hand is controlling all.

Remember that I can work through you better when you are at rest. Go very slowly, very quietly from one duty to the next – taking the time to rest and pray between.

Do not be too busy. Take all in order as I say. The Rest of God is in a realm beyond all man’s activities. Venture there often, and you will indeed find Peace and Joy.

All work that results from resting with God is miracle-work. Claim the power to work miracles, both of you.

Know that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Nay, more, know that you can do all things through Christ who rests you.

And in that day there shall be a root of
Jesse … and his rest shall be glorious. Isaiah 11:10

  166. foreverblessed says:

Thank you all for being friends.
Thanks Steve, for thanking for that.

    How much are we alike?
We all believe that Jesus is our Savior,
That He died to pay our ransom,
That He was raised to Life, and now through the Spirit flows through us.

    We are in this together!
    As friends of Jesus.
All of us know that our best Friend is Jesus, because He backs us, we can go out tot others.

But always go back to Jesus, to come to Rest again

  167. foreverblessed says:

    Good night, got to go.
    God watches over us.

  168. street says:

15 For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. 16 They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

as i read this tonite i noticed the day and night clause. there is no moon and sun to govern in the new heaven and new earth.

  169. SFDBWV says:

Thinking along the lines of Mart’s subject title “The Politics of Jesus” I think maybe the word politics is a little misleading.

The question Mart ask “If Jesus is the leader of the free world” again is also misleading.

Right away we think politically of a leader of the free world. A person in the free world most likely elected by citizens of a country.

If that person is a confessing Christian, then Jesus should be that individual’s “King”, or perhaps better said Jesus should be exemplified by their behavior and demeanor.

In every country of the world whether free or under the heel of an oppressor there are Christian people. So to ask if Jesus is the leader of the free world only, omits the point that Jesus is still the leader of Christian people everywhere else as well. However just not “politically”.

Fundamental or orthodox thinking people might just think the ruling style of Jesus the King may just be already given in the commandments, rites and instructions given to the Hebrew people. However Jesus’ presentation of “grace” tempers the strict Law of Moses and allows for forgiveness to be above adherence to the law.

Now then if we think of Christian people all over the globe living in every nations of people being under the rule of Jesus the King, then yes His citizens should show His “fruit” in the fruits of the Spirit. His Spirit, the Holy Spirit the third part of the God head.

And so once again I reach that place whereby I began in offering 1 Peter 2:9 KJV as we are a nation of people apart from the rulers of this world in spirit and our spirit should show it.

    Steve

  170. poohpity says:

If Jesus was a king, he was a different kind of king. His politics and policies call for a different kind of revolution. His wars are to be fought with a different kind of spirit. His victories with a different understanding of outcomes.

    As His citizens;

    Oh, what joy for those
    whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight!
    2
    Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
    3
When I refused to confess my sin,
    my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.
    4
Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude (a time to think)

    5
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude(a time to think)

    6
Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
    7
    For you are my hiding place;
    you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude(a time to think)

  171. poohpity says:

That was a song from an earthly king listening and telling of the freedoms found in the King of all kings and His teaching, leading and guidance.

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world; if it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now, My kingdom is not of this realm.” 37“Then You are a king!” Pilate said. “You say that I am a king,” Jesus answered. “For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice.”

  172. poohpity says:

Do you listen for His voice if He is your King?

  173. poohpity says:

Or does your own voice scream louder OVER His?

  174. Beloved says:

The politics of Jesus vs the world are found also in how we handle our goods:
    1 John 3:17-18
17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

  175. Beloved says:

Steve you mentioned our spirit showing we are not part of the present world. Amen!

Yesterday I spent quite a long time studying these verses: I John 3:19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

I was wondering about self condemnation so read Mathew Henry’s commentary which is very detailed and his explanation compared the working of the conscience to a legal system which I found very interesting. His explanation reminds me of the workings of having the right Spirit you bring up today.

  176. Beloved says:

Steve I must say I too enjoy your posts and presence here along with others. Thank you!

  177. street says:

10 This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

these promises were kept, certain are the promises in Christ Jesus. a living hope.

  178. jeff1 says:

    The Promise

I never said that I would give you silver or gold
Or that you would never feel the fire or shiver in the cold
But I did say you’d never walk through this world alone
And I did say, don’t make this world your home

I never said that fear wouldn’t find you in the night
Or that loneliness was something you’d never have to fight
But I did say I’d be right there by your side
And I did say I’ll always help you fight

‘Cause you know I made a promise that I intend to keep
My grace will be sufficient in every time of need
My love will be the anchor that you can hold onto
This is the promise, this is the promise I made to you

I never said that friends would never turn their backs on you
Or that the world around you wouldn’t see you as a fool
But I did say like me, you’ll surely be despised
And I did say my ways confound the wise

I didn’t say you’d never taste the bitter kiss of death
Or have to walk through chilly Jordan to enter into rest
But I did say I’d be waiting right on the other side (yeah, yeah)
And I did say I’ll dry every tear you cry

‘Cause you know I made a promise that I’ve prepared a place
And some day sooner than you think you’ll see me face to face
And you’ll sing with the angels and a countless multitude
This is the promise, this is the promise I’ve made to you

So just keep on walkin’, don’t turn to the left or right
And in the midst of darkness, let this be your light
That hell can’t separate us and you’re gonna make it through
This is the promise, this is the promise I made to you, oh
This is the promise, this is the promise I made to you

  179. poohpity says:

street, are you aware that some promises are to specific people, in a specific time and for specific occasions and not meant for everyone?

  180. Beloved says:

Thank you street and Viv I’ve been reading about Gods faithfulness tonight and am so encouraged. Amen because of Jesus!

Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV) For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

  181. Beloved says:

    Psalm 66:12 you let men ride over our heads;

    we went through fire and through water;

yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.

  182. poohpity says:

When living by the Kingship of Jesus, He shows no favoritism, He loves all equally even those who are His enemies. His life was still laid down for them in hopes of one day they find out that God’s love is for everyone and there is a place for one and all in His Kingdom. No hierarchy depending on social, economic, racial, cultural, gender, intellectual or religious matters just level ground for all who COME. Some just desire a closer relationship with Him than others therefore surrender more of themselves to Him but He is available to/for all.

i find it interesting that most christians can agree that all sin. all deserve a place under the eternal wrath of God, even me. i find it a real eye opener that christians can not agree on who is not going there or limp with grace. two words will light theological discussions like no other, “limited atonement.” when i first heard the phrase, i chafed against it. then came my knee jerk reaction followed by questions and an explanation. yes there is common grace and then there is uncommon grace.

was in a Bible study the other day and the subject came up of righteous anger. i did not enjoy it too much. it was revolting/distasteful to me. my thinking was like, the unrighteous trying encompass the the righteous anger of God? i generally have a smoldering anger, most noticeable when driving a car alone. a free ranger, hehe. anyway it accrued to me the anger was caused by the law. some one not driving like what was expected in the coarse of driving. talk about anger issues! i was reminded out of the blue, that Jesus said He was Lord of the Sabbath or Lord of the rest. that is a Lord i need.

  187. Beloved says:

One day I was sitting at a busy intersection waiting to make a left turn. Suddenly I became confused because the light was red but the left turn arrow was blinking yellow. So I decided it must be ok to go. Just as I entered the lane I realized I had turned on red!!! And, fully expected to be stopped by the police car sitting next to me. Nothing happened! Guessing the cop was on his cell or laptop, but I thanked God for not giving me what I fully deserved. It was a stunning example of my life filled with grace. It kind of took my breath away! (There were no other cars or pedestrians to scare Or endanger).

  188. bratimus says:

    The Politics of Jesus

To me that just dose not sound right.

Jesus is The Way of Life.

Politics is societies ideas on how life should be in societies eyes. Politics has become a religion of a sort, and two denominations are fight who is right.(I wrote demonnations first what a typo.)

Politics is very anti-Jesus in its dealings.

This is why I stay away and out of politics, and try my best to live the Jesus way.

  189. jeff1 says:

I followed a Politician who was also a religious leader of his day and my dad warned me against it as he said that politics and religion do not mix and I would have to say my dad was proved right.

My dad stayed true to God and did not allow the politics of his country get in the way because he knew the folly of it and he was proved right.

I would agree Politics is very anti-Jesus in its workings or else I am not understanding Jesus’s way.

  190. Beloved says:

    pol·i·tics
    noun

the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.

“Having or hoping to achieve power” catches my attention. Mart is right, Jesus politics is so different from the worlds. Jesus knew He had all the power to save his life yet he chose to die for us instead. Not many “politicians” interested in the welfare of people like that!

  193. jeff1 says:

Thank you, Steve, as my son has decided to travel he will leave me this month and since he has taken care of me as much as I have taken care of him it will be a great wrench for me but he is 30 years of age and because of addiction in his early years is older than most to be leaving home.

I believe that travel is good as it expands our horizons and also lets us see the treasures we already have and are not thankful for and so it is with mixed emotions I will see my son leave this month and I am thankful that through modern day technology I will be able to keep connected to him and know that he is happy on his travels.

  194. Beloved says:

Yes modern technology is a real blessing as it’s the only way I hear from my daughter and daughter-in-law now. But I’m grateful to be remembered by them today, thank you also Steve. Will reflect on my own mother’s efforts to keep our family together during tough times and give thanks to God for His grace to all us cracked pots in the kitchen of life!

May your troubles all be small ones
And your fortunes ten times ten

  197. jeff1 says:

It troubled me when I was a child and it till troubles me today that Christians can relish in believing their enemies are going to hell.

Having been raised in a divided political and religious culture it doesn’t matter which side of the divide you come from there are from both sides people who cannot wait for God to avenge their enemies.

I don’t get this thinking as though I have feared my enemies and felt anger towards them when they did wrong I cannot say I would wish them eternal damnation.

I would like that God would punish them as He sees fit and shows mercy as His is His nature but I could never relish in seeing anyone being eternally damned as it seems so much more like revenge than it does justice.

I learned from my dad (God rest him) that it is so much easier to play God than it is to follow Jesus and the difference is discipline as that is what it takes to keep my focus of the world and my eyes on Him.

    Lead Me, Guide Me

Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me
I am tired and I need thy strength and power
To guide me over my darkest hour
For just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me

Lead me, guide me along the way
For if you lead me I cannot stray
Or just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me
I am lost if you take your hand from me
I am blind without try light to see

Lord just always let me thy servant be
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me
Lead me, guide me along the way
For if you lead me I cannot stray
Lord just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me

  198. poohpity says:

Isn’t hell and damnation self inflicted ends? God’s desire was that none shall perish (2 Peter 3:9; Ezekiel 33:11; 1 Tim 2:3-4) After all the proof that there is a God since this world was created, His hand is seen in all things, there are still those who refused to believe. God does not force anyone, ANYONE to open the door and let Him in. FREEWILL is freewill. It is man kinds choice!

  199. poohpity says:

If we are really concerned about those who are perishing wouldn’t we be quicker in sharing God’s story? One would not be able to hold it in if they really cared about the well being of those around us. Share the mercy you have been shown, share the grace you have been shown, share the forgiveness that was gifted to you although one did not deserve any of it.

Romans 10: 14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

  200. poohpity says:

One sure does share what political party they support or they share about the people they support most often one can not keep their mouths shut as they lift people up or tear them down with slander or malice however when it comes to God many remain silent regarding their values and beliefs. God is not a private matter or a secret, our individual relationship is however some find things to boast about even though all spiritual things come from God but not the Good News about Him that is something we should be excited to share because we do not want anyone to go to hell and damnation.

Well I guess some people want others to suffer in hell and damnation we may feel it is justice for them but for them to experience that means we must also have justice in our own lives and I do not know about you but I would rather be shown mercy. So I can not demand justice for one and not have justice given for all. That only happens out of ignorance thinking one sin is worse than another but to God they are all the same. Murder and lying are both sins and our Judge says guilty and in “The Politics of Jesus” He says I know they are guilty but I will pay the penalty for their crimes myself.

  201. poohpity says:

It seems that in the church people are so busy pointing fingers at whether one Christian is more spirit filled than another or is a bad or good Christian that they remain silent about telling others about Jesus because they are afraid that someone will judge them as they do others and find them lacking in so many areas which is really the truth in the matter, we all fall short in one area or another but some Christian’s seem to think those are the secrets we must keep so no one knows the very reason we came to Jesus in the first place.

The very minute we sit on that Judgement throne we put ourselves in the place of God and as we judge others that is how God will judge us. Do you want God to judge you the way you judge others? Remember God sees you, ALL of you, nothing hidden you may fool others with words that deceive but not God. So do you cry for justice or for mercy?

  202. jeff1 says:

What I do know is that those who loose their loved ones to violence expect justice and it isn’t for me to argue the rights or wrongs but having been brought up in a country were hatred and violence was practised I can see that victims do not see that it is God’s will for their loved one to be taken from them in this way.

When no one is brought to justice they do not have closure and do not find the peace of mind they need to put their anger to rest.

I would agree that we see sin differently to God which is why it is keeping our focus on Christ that keeps us equal at the foot of Jesus as it is when we put ourselves on the pedestal we diminish the truth of the Gospel.

  203. poohpity says:

Viv, aren’t we talking about the difference in the Politics of Jesus and the earthly/worldly politics? Of course we live by laws and the consequences of breaking them like an eye for an eye kinda thing or else we would all live in chaos everyone doing what they thought is right or wrong. So maybe it would be better not to confuse the two.

God does not take the consequences of breaking laws away He in fact gave us ways of punitive actions regarding those laws. If someone murders another they either are put in prison for life or the death penalty but their souls can still be forgiven since in the world not everyone believes in God but He taught that the punishment should fit the crime.

Having experienced crimes committed against me and the person never being punished for those crimes, I have had to trust God. BUT just as I prayed for mercy for myself I had to come to terms with praying that for them as well. The anger I carried around was only hurting me so I turned it over to God and ask Him to forgive me for not trusting Him with it. God’s justice will prevail whether I can see it or not, I KNOW. I have done things that were never brought before a court or the legal system so I know and God knows and I cry for mercy and am thankful for forgiveness but I am still going to face consequences for those actions in someway or another.

If I do not suffer consequences then more than likely I will repeat those actions rather than learn from them not to repeat. When you touch a fire it burns or else you will continue to touch it over and over.

  204. Beloved says:

Good day viv. Thinking of violence I now look to the violence Jesus suffered and how He responded. You talk about often here looking to Him for help is your peace and comfort. I also trust Him to do what is humanly impossible to do or think. I need Him every hour. Bless His holy name.

I am not confusing the two but a Christian is expected to behave differently than a non Christian and yet many are relishing in their enemies being bound for hell and still have an eye for eye mentality so that is no different from how the world sees it, whether they are believers or not.

I too have struggled with anger and wanting vengeance against my enemies but I have focused on Jesus’s way and found a peace but that is because I no longer see that an eye for an eye is right but rather than it is in trusting God’s will to be right and not my own.

I am saying that it is when Christians don’t focus on Jesus’s way that they play God rather than follow Jesus and are empowering themselves which consequently is the difference in the politics of Jesus and the earthly/worldly politics.

  206. Beloved says:

    Politics of Jesus

I did not know that Proverbs31 is actually descriptive of the church, not a “woman” as i was taught. In that case, this verse holds a whole new meaning for me as it applies to Jesus’ agenda. Proverbs 31:25 NLT
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.

  207. Beloved says:

I think fear is tied to our knowledge of being finite and fallible, either by natural causes or unnatural causes. However, there is No fear of death for those in Christ!

  208. poohpity says:

Who expects Christians to behave differently? Do you behave differently or are you just as filled with hate and anger as those around you? So what is supposed to be different?

  209. jeff1 says:

I would think those in society/worldly would expect Christians to behave differently as that is what is to set us apart.

I struggled with hate and anger but I hold no desire for vengeance but for God’s will to be done.

Christians are not supposed to want an eye for an eye if they are following Jesus and that is what my dad’s example taught me and I don’t believe he was wrong.

The reason we are divided today is because we have not exalted Christ but made the Gospel about us rather then Him and that is not what God commanded.

  210. poohpity says:

I disagree that Christians are not supposed to want an eye for an eye type of punishment. The punishment should fit the crime since we live in a secular world and that is the very teaching that God gave Moses to deal with people in their community who broke laws and stood before the people that were in the place of judges in the community of 1 million people. There were judges over 10, then over a hundred, then a thousand they were those who heard the charges against the people then passed judgement and saw to consequences. They were the judiciary branch of government in those days just like a parent who disciplines their children the punishment fits the crime. If a child misuses the phone then taking the phone away seems to be an appropriate consequence rather than spanking or something else that is not appropriate.

The sad part and the reason for disagreement is that not everyone living in any country follows Jesus so there has to be some form of punishment when someone breaks the law why not have the discipline line up with the crime.

The reason we are divided today is because people really do not even know anything about the person they say they follow. They do not know His ways, His character most do not even know what the Good News is or are unsure about what they say they believe so they do not have common ground to stand on.

I hate to disappoint you Viv but not everyone in this world we live in has surrendered their lives to Christ not even most Christians they still struggle with being in control and trying to control others. There are many people who do not even believe in God so how does a society deal with them when they break the laws of the land where they live since they do not give a hoot about God?

Do you act like a Christian is supposed to? Whatever that is supposed to mean according to Viv.

  211. poohpity says:

From what I understand a Christian that lives like a Christian is one who lives like they have been forgiven and does the same towards others. A person who has grasped the meaning of all that Christ has done for them is generous with showing that to others which means showing grace and mercy to people who do not deserve it because of their faith in God not themselves.

A Christian knows they are unable to live a perfect life and do not expect others to either. Yes there is a difference in us because we know we are not God therefore do not hold others to higher standards than we are able to live ourselves and the only way to do that is to be open and honest about our failures, faults and shortcomings and that alone will show people the forgiveness, grace and mercy we have received BUT they will not see that if we act self righteous as if we never do anything wrong because we do.

  212. Beloved says:

    Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

  213. jeff1 says:

I think Pooh, what you are saying is that I don’t know Christ and for the biggest part of my life I did not know Christ because my ignorance of Him was unbelievable saying as I had been baptized, confirmed and raised a believer in Him.

I did Viv’s christian walk which was to be as good as I possibly could be.

That didn’t work out very well and so I ran from God believing that He was just like the religious people that surrounded me and I didn’t want any part of this kind of religion.

The war around me and all the hatred and violence would enforce my believe that God wasn’t as good as the religious people claimed he was and after all they were just as bitter and wanting an eye for an eye as the non believers of my day so there was no difference in a Christian or non Christian except that one believed in God and the other didn’t.

I was rebelling against all the hypocrisy that I seen of people who as the English soldier would later point out to me where very good at religion but not so at being Christian.

    poohpity says:

There are many people who do not even believe in God so how does a society deal with them when they break the laws of the land where they live since they do not give a hoot about God?

Now, Pooh, do you see why God says His Kingdom is not of this world because I have lived with hypocrisy having been brought up in a very religious country but that did not make it a Christ focused one and what I learned about Jesus I learned from my dad whom I was blessed to have as God used him to draw me to Himself and so I know a peace and comfort that many are still seeking because Jesus dwells in the heart that allows Him access and that is His dwelling place on earth which is what my dad always knew while those around him were playing God and claiming to know Him.

  214. poohpity says:

Is it really any of our business how others live their lives? I think what matters the most is how we each live our own lives and that gives us enough to pay attention to. Once you thought you realized that you could not please God but then coming to the realization that through Christ Jesus, God is pleased with us we no longer strive for perfection but enjoy the process of God working in and through us because it is His work in us that brings about change.

Only you know if you know God. I can say you seem to know your dad very well or did you but do you know God with that same intensity and idolization. Shouldn’t God be on that pedestal where your dad sits now?

What I was saying is that while we are here on this earth some places have a legal system to govern people and hopefully it is fair and impartial which it is not in all cases because imperfect people rule in it but it is what God has put into place until this earth fades away.

I do not judge whether you know Christ or not again that is not my business. Just like it is not your business to determine whether someone is a good or bad Christian by your standards. It is not your standards that count because they only see a glimpse of a person, a small fragment of a whole being and when one looks at others they often forget what they themselves look like so think it is their job to judge from only a little itty bitty piece. It is like looking at one little hair then trying to determine what the whole person is like.

The same way you misunderstood what I was saying is how easy it is to come to wrong conclusions about others but that doesn’t stop most people from voicing their opinions from their perspectives rather than trying to understand by really listening to what someone else is sharing.

I do not know a church in the world that hypocrites aren’t among it’s population just as it is a hospital for sinners of every sort, size and shape. If someone is perfect they probably have no need to attend the church, they have no need for God but as of yet the only perfect person I have ever met was Jesus.

  215. poohpity says:

There is always going to be conflict when people are involved but it is how one deals with it that matters. One can either discuss the issues or become disgusted and call names(malicious slander), fling out false accusations and become angry, bitter and resentful. BUT YET there are many ways to bring solutions to conflicts that do not involve being ugly it is called respectful conversations which involves healthy adult communication skills which may just end up agreeing to disagree but it enhances the relationship not tear it apart.

  216. Beloved says:

Viv those are stunning words you shared, thank you, it really helps to know you better. I think your questioning your faith is very good. As you compared what you “ knew” with the vision of Christ within you He became the hero He always was! Very encouraging. I like you very much!

  217. poohpity says:

Within the body of believers there is so much wisdom in not looking at the sins, failures and faults of others but self awareness that brings us closer to God. If non-believers saw us keep on eye on our own shortcomings and the freedom we have received from forgiveness wouldn’t they want to know about the God we have come to believe in and love?

    Psalm 32:

    Oh, what joy for those
    whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight!
    2
    Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
    3
When I refused to confess my sin,
    my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.
    4
Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude

    5
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude

    6
Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
    7
    For you are my hiding place;
    you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude

  218. Beloved says:

Non believers see in us Christ, not our own attempts at being good or using faith to justify our sinfulness. Easy to see through for both believers and nonbelievers. Poohpity is a hoax and a shame to the faithful in Christ. Anathema.

Avoid such people.” 2 Timothy 3:5, KJV: “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:5, NASB: “holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.”

  219. jeff1 says:

Pooh, if I think a lot of my dad it was because he was the one Christian of my day who set me the example I needed to be drawn to Christ.

Otherwise I may have wandered further from God as the violence and hatred around me was driving me mental and it was my dad’s stability of mind and being true to Jesus that changed my direction and brought me a peace that is beyond my own understanding.

Yes, Beloved, I knew there was something very wrong in the thinking of those around me and I am not judgemental of them because they were difficult days for us all but I do believe I was blessed to have a dad who was influencing me towards trusting Jesus rather than allowing myself to be led by others who where not.

  220. cbrown says:

Good Morning all! The “Our Daily Bread” was on point to his discussion and dealt with the Samaritin woman(John 4:7-15).
Beloved I always add Proverbs 3:7 “Do not be wise in your own eyes;Fear the Lord and turn away from evil”. As a side note, I had a cataract removed fro my left eye and now I can see more clearly.Next week I am going to have the cataract removed from my right eye. I did not realize how bad my vision had gotten. Love, Chris

  221. Beloved says:

Viv you have a very kind and sensitive personality like mine that always looks for the best in people. However, there are people who claim to be Christians but are merely out for their own self interests. When a believer intimates they need money right off the bat not even knowing them I have in the past helped without checking them out first. But this is not being wise as a serpent as we are supposed to be. Gentle as doves, yes also. When I first talked to poohpity she intimated she was broke and at the time I said I would help her out if I could. Thinking it’s what a Christian should do for believers. However, it didn’t take me long to figure out she was anything but a believer, rather a wolf (wise cunning manipulative self absorbed) in sheep’s clothing. She will turn on you in a second if challenged. I no longer read her but if I happen to I just move on, because it’s the same old junk.

Chris happy for your eye surgery! Thank you for the verse also. I will be reading ODB next.

  222. SFDBWV says:

There is an old saying that says “God laughs at the plans of man.” Though I actually think he most likely cringes or even cries rather than laughs it insinuates that to its originator God has a sense of humor.

When I think of the duck billed platypus I have to agree that an egg laying furry mammal that lives in the water is certainly confusing in the order of things.

But that is only the beginning of things whereas people who think they have God figured out find themselves, in a ridiculous posture of sounding foolish.

When they insist that they do indeed “know” God by ridiculing others as not knowing God as well as they, then their posture becomes insulting to both God and those they talk down to.

Sadly it destroys their attempt to be a witness for Christ.

Our witness of the indwelling of Christ is that fruit Mart finishes with in his topic comment. We demonstrate the fruit of the Holy Spirit by our words and more importantly in our actions.

Whereas there is little humorous about a hypocrite or a wolf in sheep’s clothing, some of us may see it as so obvious that it becomes amusing to see or hear such try and pull the wool over our eyes. Yes that is a pun, and is also an old saying that originated from the Biblical reference to someone being a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

What is sad though when someone can’t see their words and actions reflect such anti-Christian behavior.

No matter how softly or harshly dealt with the offender only sees themselves as being a victim and what is left is to shake our heads in disbelief and leave them to God to deal with. Because our attempts seem to have only fanned the fire and failed to take root.

Only recently Glenna has learned that the beautiful song bird the Baltimore Oriole and Orchard Oriole are in the same family as the squawking pesky black bird.

Yes Glenna it is hard to imagine such beauty and such ugly being in the same family, but just like these birds we too all belong to the same family like it or not.

So we shake our heads and say, “go figure” and move along. Some knowing they will never be able to figure it all out, especially our Creator.

    41 degrees and wet.

  223. SFDBWV says:

Joyce I wrote all of that while you and Chris wrote and posted, it seems we were thinking along a similar line of thought.

Chris I was a welder, fabricator, electrician and mechanic as a tradesmen in all the industries that used my talents. One of the things that never ceased to amaze me was when I changed my welding lens for a clean one just how bad my ability to see was diminished by the slowly dirty coating on the lens. Only becoming apparent with the new clean one.

I too had cataract surgery this past winter on both eyes and yes it is amazing, just like with the welding lens, just how bad my vision had gotten, apparent only when once again I could see clearly.

Glad for your successful surgery and the one to come.

Joyce you are such a liar. Just exactly what is it that you could help me with that I would seek you out? That is just completely delusional. You stalked me and why did you do that if I was so intimidating?

The saying a wolf in sheep’s clothing was in regards to people that were bringing false teaching into the church to get people to follow them instead of the Lord. I can completely assure you that I do not want anyone to follow me in anyway that is the very reason I share the teaching of Jesus Christ.

  225. Beloved says:

For the sake of the “ body” here I must expose one who claims to be one of us. Poohpity told me long ago in that first conversation we had that even though she was broke she still had an inheritance from her parents which was in a bank. I asked her why not use it if she’s broke. She said she had to ask her aunt for the money and she didn’t want to. I knew then she was a shady character. I had hoped she was learning the ways of God and He would change her, but she has not changed in all these years and so I can’t be as generous as you, Steve. You have a tender heart also. The kind wolves seek out. God has protected us though as is His way. Guessing she will say gossip! Gossip! That’s a problem in some churches that don’t know to trust God is in charge. Let the truth be known! That’s where healing begins. And true freedom in Christ.

  226. Beloved says:

Sadly there was a time when I thought I could help people in my own power with the tools learned through counseling, but I’ve learned to lean not on my own understanding and trust God s wisdom more. His time by and ways are perfect! Can a wolf slough off it’s coat? Nope.

  227. Beloved says:

Group think: the body of Christ knowing when a wolf has entered and threatens the sheep.

  228. Beloved says:

Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens the face of his neighbor ,” is almost universally seen as positive. … The phrase from Prov 27:17, “iron sharpens iron,” is almost universally seen as positive: wise people should be questioning, encouraging, coaching, and challenging each other.

  229. Beloved says:

Matthew 7:15 King James Version (KJV)

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

  230. jeff1 says:

I believe you are right, Beloved, I want to see the best in people and often get disappointed because people let you down.

It’s been my weakness and then I am like a wounded animal who goes away to lick their wounds.

People can be complicated and I have given up trying to understand others and focus on my faith which has brought me peace knowing that God cares and in His time will make all things new and I cannot wait to get a new me as I am growing weary of the old one.

  231. poohpity says:

Group think: Evil thoughts from evil hearts bent on doing and sayiing evil things. Birds of a feather flock together.

  232. Beloved says:

    My Utmost is encouraging today.

  233. jeff1 says:

I Look to You, and You Are love

I look to You, and You are love,
    And Father, You are here.
While close to You, my heart is love,
    And praise replaces fear.

    Refrain
    My Lord, my God, You’re with me now;
I love, and I am free.
Stay near and breathe just one desire:
To love as You love me.

I pray, and Lord, I see Your face
    In family and friends.
The love that binds my heart to You
Now binds my heart to them.

I face You, Lord, and know Your love
And know it has no bounds.
I long to bring that love to life
    And spread it all around

thinking about peace…. if there is no peace, then there is a fox in the hen house. solomn mentioned foxes in the vineyard. when peace is disturbed it’s time to cry out to the Farmer.

  235. jeff1 says:

God of peace, above all conflict,
    High and sovereign Lord alone,
    All complete in Your well-being,
    Robed in splendor still unknown,
Yet You came into our conflict,
Bearing all our sin could bring,
    All our anger and injustice,
Death with all its bitter sting.

Wrapped in peace with God Your Father,
You were more than flesh could be,
    Perfect weakness, perfect power,
    Perfect love and purity.
What a Gift to helpless sinners!
What a word You shout abroad!
    You are peace, complete, forever,
Peace within and peace with God.

Peace will fill the earth and heavens,
Peace You bought with such a price,
Bought with love and rich forgiveness,
    Bought with pain and sacrifice.
Give Your peace to those around us
Though the price is still the same.
Make our lives the fragrant offering
With Your love the mighty flame.

  236. street says:

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

  237. poohpity says:

Today was the one year anniversary of moving our US Embassy to the official capital of Israel, Jerusalem! Thank you to our President for fulfilling his promise to move it from Tel Aviv to Israel’s capital and standing in solidarity with that country. Many Presidents said they would but never did it as what happens with most politicians and their promises.

  238. street says:

could you have an increase of His peace apart from His Rule?
    apart from faith?
    apart from Him?

He said I will never leave you nor forsake you.

    fear vs love.

“Out of the eater came something to eat, And out of the strong came something sweet.”

  239. jeff1 says:

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious Name: for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
    1 Chronicles 29. 11, 13, 14.

  240. Beloved says:

Could you have an increase of His peace apart from Him?

Yes, it’s called peace at any cost. The dysfunctional rule of man where evil is overlooked for the sake of not rocking the boat so to speak. Hiding myriads of sin that continue to breed until the whole is ruined. Jesus told his disciples one of them would betray Him, Judas. He called out the sin yet continued His mission and was killed, being Gods plan to hurt Him. Politics without justice and mercy is never seen in the world as it was on the cross.
